Hi I just purchased a new 2006 Elantra yesterday after doing extensive research on the market. Based on my price range I found the new Elantra to be best "bang for the buck" bargain out there. They're neat little cars and they drive great. I got an automatic, so I probly won't have much room for performance improvement. However, I would definitley like to hear opinions on where I should start with the mod of my vehicle. It seems to lack a little hp behind the wheel. Well its nice meeting everyone and hope to conversate with ya'll soon!

Welcome to the site!

The best, cheap mod you can probably do is upgrade your rear sway bar to the GK Tiburon rear sway bar or if that's not thick enough, there's a few places you can get bigger ones.

Thanks for the welcome!

So you think that's a good starting point? Will there be a noticable change? I was thinking also that maybe tires would be a good first thing to change as well. Any recommendations?

Welcome to exd. I personally would start with the interior that was my plans with my 06. Then when thats finished go towards the performance and exterior. Also I didnt want to void my warrenty right off the bat.

Upgrading the swaybar from the paperclip-thin one the Elantra comes with should be one of the first modifications you do. The difference will definately be felt as you take turns/corners and the car doesn't try to lean over around every one.

As for tires, a good upgrade - but if you may eventually buy different rims, don't buy tires now, and again for the new rims. It is pretty-much common knowledge that the OEM Michelin tires SUCK.

welcome to the site! as BlackElantraGT & hyunelan2 said, the tiburon sway bar is a great mod for the car and relatively cheap (~$50). I've got that done to my car along with a cold air intake from ebay (~$40), and those two alone would be able to set your car apart from the original and make it feel a little sportier

Theres plenty of knowledge on the site for all the basic/easy mods youd probably be interested in. Take a look at the DIY section and ofcourse search up and down to learn the potential these cars have.

hey hey, welcome, you WILL need some performance to compensate for the ATX tranny drivetrain loss :)

Great suggestions! I will definitely look into getting that sway bar. Is there anywhere here that most of you guys do your shopping on, other than ebay? Would I have to get the sway bar installed by a professional? I'll probly hold off on the tires, as suggested, until I get some better rims. I'm looking at a couple right now but way too expensive for me. It will probly be a good 6 months before I do that.

I had a question as well. Is there an online program, for instance, to keep track of your maintenance records? I want to make to keep all that up to date so that I always have the papers on the car.

Again, thx for the suggestions and I will look through the site more extensively in the following days and weeks!

On a NEW car- it will be so simple, your grandmother could do it. I think theres a DIY up...If not- buy it, look at it and climb under your rear-end- you will see it and say...Duh-- that looks easy.

I did mine while the car was on JAcks to make it even EASIER.

You should be able to do the swaybar on your own, unless you're blind, and only have one arm - then have someone else do it. Here's the DIY

Dont have the hyundai dealership put the sway bar on,they will give you **** about warranty issues.

As other said, go with no warranty issues mod, the sway bar and CAI are good ones, cheap and can be done all by yourself.

In case you need to use your warranty and your dealership is starting to whine about those 2 simple mod, go see another one, they are not mods that should void it ...

also check all the forum section here, you'll find a lot of valuable infos!

Usually if you look with the car's owner manual, you should find a this little leaflet journal that tells you when to inspect or replace parts at what mileage. It also lets you jot down what service was done to the car on what date. That's probably the easiest thing you can use to keep track of the services done to your car. Just write it down promptly and save your receipts with it.

I'm sure somewhere out there someone has something similar to this that you can do online, but it's not even worth the hassle, especially since you have to keep a paper record anyway. I know that at autozone.com, they have a service that's similar where they recommend what service needs to be done at what mileage.

Being that your car is new, right now is the best time to change the sway bar, before it becomes tougher to unbolt things. If you have the right, basic tools, it's a pretty easy job. The toughest part is getting the bolt loose.
