MB SL > Caddy XLR. These executive penis extenders are a waste of money anyway, rather have a Hyundai lol.

As I don't follow Cadillac at all, is the xlr-v the Caddy version of the Corvette? It looks very corvette-ish from the picture.

The standard XLR is built on the C6 vette platform. The XLR-V is as well, but with a few mods to the suspension, engine, etc. It is still nowhere near a C6 Z06 vette in performance though, and they are 30 grand less. I like the car, but give me a Ferrari killing C6 Z06 and a used four door S4 for my $100K any day.

hell for 100K I would have a list of car to buy and no Caddy would be on it for sure ... even if it's based on the vette!!!

I think the point of this car is lost on all of you. It's not about raw power, nor is it about being a "Ferrari Killer" like the Z06. That's whatthe Z06's purpose is. This is to be a High class "Grand Tourer" like the Convertable AMG Mercedes, and the Jag XK8, so on and so forth. This car was tweaked and refined to be classy, not brawny.

Would I buy one? Hell no. Bt I have no use for a 2 seat coupe. Give me a CTS-v or even an STS-v and I would jump on that so fast it would make your head spin!

XLR is a fancy Corvette with all sorts of electronic gizmos to "justify" the higher price. Take a look at it up close and you'll see that every useless function has a button to do it for you. Basically some electrician had a field day making crap for it and they stuffed it in thinking that people are really interested in a car becuase it has lots of electronics in it. "Hey Cadillac ... This isn't the 80's anymore"

Tell that to BMW, JAg and Mercedes.

The car just doesn't scream out, "Hey I'm a $100,000 sports car!". I can justify maybe a 75K price tag at most, but for $100K, that's a bit too expensive for American engineering.

What abou the Saleen S7? It is made in America and it does 0-60 in like 3.4 sec and has a price tag of $500,000.

BlackElantraGT

The Saleen is in a whole different category. That's a one of a kind car. Even if you had the money, there's probably a waiting list to buy one just like many of the super cars in production.

Do you think it is worth the price tag? I tell you what I love Caddi's my self **** I own an 84 but ya 100K fuk that I would buy me a s S600 or even the new DTS and a STS for that price!!!!!!!!

Edit: Original question was supposed to be do you think the Saleen being american made is worth that price!!!!!

BlackElantraGT
05-19-2006, 07:09 PM
That depends on how you really look at it. If you're looking at it based on the costs to build it, no, the Saleen is probably not worth the $500K. It's about supply and demand. Just like how no beanie baby really cost $1000 to produce, the $500K price justifies it because of it's rareness.

We had an XLR come in to U-Haul for a hitch back in early 2004. I was like... "dibs!" But everything on it was fingerprint activated and the owner had to drive it up on the ramps. It was supposed to be the same hitch as the vette but exhaust and **** was in the way so we had to send him away to have it welded on.

By the way, yeah this guy was about 60+... all he talked about was the car and how his wife couldn't drive it.

Cadillac is in serious trouble. They have ugly styling & aren't in the same class as a BMW, Audi or Mercedes in that price range. They'll have to discount these things at least $20k to move them off the lots.... They are quickly going the way of Oldsmobile. In 10 years they probably won't even be around anymore.....

There are a few of these in my neighborhood and they are horrid looking, in my opinion of course. The catch is, I live in a development neighborhood where every house is kind of like a duplex except they are full size houses. Definately not the type of neighborhood where you would expect to see these but a few stupid a-holes buy cars they probably can't really afford and live in a smaller size home.

This has got to be the most uneducated mis-informed post in this thread.

Cadillac is doing better than any other division in GM right now. THey have fantastic cars and even Car and Driver is putting them smack dab in the middle of BMW and Mercedes. The STS-V beat the Mercedes and followedthe M5 in a 3-wa comparo. How is that "in trouble?"
