Here's a totally **** up idea for a trip. Who would be willing to make a coast to coast drive? I've always wanted to make that kind of a trip. Starting point would be Montréal and the finishing one be Vancouver. Other could be joining the convoy on the way west. At Vancouver there could be a huge Party!
For the moment, That's all i have to say. So tell me what you think about that.
Is it something possible to do, or is it just a brain fart i had
I'm waiting for your comment!
Bye!

Ahemmm... Coast to Coast... starting in Montreal    :D
Actually I would love to drive this great country if only I had the time and the money :)
...so long as I still had enough money to fly to Germany, rent an exotic (Porsche, Ferrari, Aston Martin...) try out the Autobahn system and take it to to the "old" Nurburgring... it's open to the public for something like 5 Euros..!

Something like that, you want to take your time and soak it all in. I have done coast to coast in the US (10 years ago). It was a great adventure, and you get to meet nice, strange, crazy, and run away from quickly people. If you do it, have fun. I tried to stop at a lot of "out of the way" stuff. It worked out awesome!

Like i said It's just an idea. We could start somewhere else like in Nova Scotia. That would be a real coast to coast. Also, it's something that will take time to organize. We most calculate the fuel, the food and the lodging. To that we most include one oil change to the car at least. So there's a lot of thinking to do. Another idea i had, is to ask Hyundai Canada to kinda sponsor our trip. Let me explain. If we could gather up let's say 15 to 20 car, we could ask for free service for our car in exchange for some kind of publicity we could make for them. Also, we ask them to throw in one or two 2007 elantra for the ride. That could be good test of reliability for them. For the publicity, we could stop at one or two dealers in each province. It could be a pitstop-show&shine. :D
There's all sort of possibility. That's why i post this thread. I need your suggestion, your comment and your idea. I think it's something that can be done . It would be fun and it would be a great experience.
So my friend, can we make it?

LOL dont you pay attention to rising gas prices?
NYC to LA is 2800miles one way... so lets say you are looking to do a 3k trip... then you have to times that by 2 to go back home so thats like 6k miles! In a two week period... are you brutally insane? You'd need 2 oil changes on the way and a tune up on some other misc wear and tear items.... so lets say you averaged 30miles to the gallon...
6000/30 = 200gallons! times that by 3bucks a gallon 200*3= $600+!!!! each car And thats not counting Food/Hotels and whatever else you plan on doing..

You would have to do that cause you wanted to.... financially you're right though. It wouldn't make sense. You could get a round-trip airline ticket across country for way less than $600.

Well yeah, it would cost more then an airplane ticket but a lot more fun! :P
I'm in ... if this turns out to be done!
So for a ~10 000 Km trip (to go there and get back) its around 700 liters ... at an average of 1.15$ it's around 800$ CAN JUST for the gas ... we would have to add food, 2 oil change plus other things ... lets say the trip would turn around 1400 each ...
Of course we can use alternatives to pay our gas like "Allo-Stop" and those kind of "co-voiturage" (sorry, I really don't know how to translate that in english! :S) buisness!
For the lodginig we could do some camping (it's always fun! :P).
For the food I'm sure there is cheap places along the road (and please, no McDo suggestions!) ... I also have those 12v cooler, they are quite usefull on long trip like that.
So I'm sure it could be possible but it's a lot of money and organisation, we would have to find peoples and then we could check with Hyundai Canada for some type of sponsorship (like the oil changes and other things)!
I'm sure it's possible and I would be in (I have the money, it would only slow my boost project! :P)
Any other suggestions?

Before asking for a sponsor, we must make sure to have at least 20 car. Because if there is not enough car (less then 10), we can kiss the project goodbye. By the way, this project isn't for this year. So the people who want to participate will be able to prepare there self.
I'd like to add something else. A car, is made to drive. Yes it need gas. Yes it is expensive these day. But if we stop using our car because of that, we'll end up doing nothing. No i'm not rich, but i love my car. So i'M going to keep on riding hard, because that's what i like and that's what my car is made for.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm already making a trip that looks pretty much like this. I'm leaving Rivière-du-Loup in favor of Edmonton, AB. Leaving on August 21st, arrival on August 24th. 4350 km's.
I'd sure like to ride with you if your dates resemble mine!

I drove to the middle of Iowa with my father to pick up a boat, 1600 miles round trip, we did it in two days. A cross country trip would be 3 days max.

Ever since I graduated high school back in '98, I've always wanted to make a cross country trip, but the right moment never came. First it was the funds, and when the funds were available I didn't have the time, etc. etc. But I've come to realize that in life, most things never happen at the right time and sometimes, you just have to go for it.
I lost my job last August and since then I've been contemplating a cross-country trip. I don't really have the funds for it anymore, but I feel like if this is ever going to happen, I probably have to do it soon before I enter the job market again. For the longest time, my wife has been telling me that if we do this, we're not using the Elantra because it's a manual and she can't drive it. She's one of those that's too stubborn to learn how to drive it, even though I keep telling her how quickly she'll get used to it.
But on our way back home from Vegas about a week ago, she mentioned that maybe we should do the cross-country trip sometime in the fall. So I don't know, maybe this is finally going to happen for me. I'm on the west coast though, but I think that would be pretty nice to drive back through Canada, because then I can visit Vancouver and come back down and see places like Seattle and the coast of Oregon.
I've always wanted to do a collage of my XD in different cities, sorta like how that one dude films himself doing his wierd dance around the world.

Doing a cross-country trip in 3-4 days would take the fun out of the trip. If I'm going to spend more than $3/gallon.. you better bet I'm going to make my trip memorable.

Relax Obi_one! I was thinking about a 14 days trip. 'Cause like you say, it would be no fun at all driving more then 10 hour a day.

damn, this seems like that road rally they do every year in the states... this year they are going from Nevada to DC by July 4th (i think its a week long drive) and are having a huge party in DC.
I would be in for something like this, but then again, i have school and would have to drive from VA to Canada... so that would be an added 600 or so miles on my car.

I'm in if I ever get my head redone. Sitting 1600 km return trip from my car, thankful for friends who let me keep it there until local shop here can rebuild it. I already drive ontario to Nova Scotia every summer anyway. be a wild run with a bunch of other enthusiasts
