You have the CVVT sensor on your intake and I've read that if it is too close to the intake opening it may throw a CEL...

please stop
you do NOT have a CVVT sensor on your intake. what you have is a MAF sensor. if you would like to add a SRI, the piping will have to be the same length as to where the MAF sensor is. connect the MAF to the SRI piping and the filter to the other side of the MAF. you shouldnt have a problem
if you dont have the sensor in place or plugged in, your car will run like ****, thats if it even chooses to run

maf = mass air flow sensor ie the black tube with the screen, and sri short ramair intake, if i am correct<cant really see due to the angle> you have another piece of piping after you blue coupler that goes in to the filter . you could try putting that piece on the other side of the maf and attaching the maf to the filter. what kind if intake did you buy that your still using the black stock tubing along with the aluminum piping?

that is what i was asking because everyone else has on their pics no evediance that there is a MAF on there car nor this black tubing see i do not know much about cars and did not know if it was safe to take the black tubing thats behind the MAF that connects to the throttle body because it is weird shaped and there wires connected to it

this is a pic of my engine bay if look to the right you can see the maf attached to the intake http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11952&highlight=header+nicks+car
did you buy your sri from some where or did you try to make it your self ?
like i said i would move the maf further from the intake manifold and the reset your ecu and see if that helps

well i bought off on ebay from intake_power.im thinkin maby i should get a curved alumnim pipe for my SRI thank you for your patience and all the info  another question do you suggest a throttle body/coolentline bypass is it safe?

i havent done it but then again im lazy and evan (if you dont know who he is you will soon ) helps with most of my stuff, but there are quite a few people with it done and no problems.

will run a bit harsher until it warms up in the winter, but causes no damage if you do the TB bypass. i have done it on 2 elantras now, and only noticed that it idles a bit rougher when cold started. once warm, the car runs a lot better, and doesnt bog down when running after a while.

You are kind of right... the Mass Air Flow sensor is used to determine how much air is flowing into the engine so the ECU can deliver the correct amount of fuel (amongst other things)... it does this by maintaining a constant temperature in the probe you can see inside the mesh screen... more air passing means it needs to provide more current to keep the probe at its preset temperature, less air = less current. BUT it is not designed to heat the air. Elantras prior to 2003 used a different technology... in fact you must have a late year 2003 as the cars early in 2003 did not use MAF either. So you will see many pictures of Cold Air Intakes (CAI) or Short (ram) Air Intakes(SRI) on this site that do not include a MAF sensor.
However, your car does use MAF, so you must ensure that whatever intake you use places the MAF at the same distance from the Throttle Body (TB) as in the stock configuration.
There is another mod which bypasses the coolant flowing around the TB... this coolant is designed to warm the intake air (which is bad for performance).
You will also find that both these subjects have been discussed many many times before on this forum and that searching can be a great help to you. :D
By the way.. your setup looks fine...

...using the stock tubing between TB and MAF ensures the correct distance. Some folks find that this stock tube (which includes a small resonator) helps to remove a humming sound which can develop especially if using a CAI.
