So I was working yesterday and a kid (who I kinda know so I trust that it isn't stolen or anything) offered to sell me his L7 for $200, box included. My amp can't output that much, but I can always upgrade that later. Is this a good deal or bad deal? Also the box he made might not fight the trunk of the Elantra, so it might be $200 just for the sub.

not that great of a deal, if he does cheaper id go for it. id only buy it from him for like 150 max. im not a big kicker fan though, so i guess i wouldnt care about it as much.

what model and year l7, as in what color os the cone? and 200.00 alone for an l7, no way. maby 100.00 tops. you can get brand new for 200.00 if you shop around (and im not talking about ebay crap either).

The L7 is too loud to have any sq, it's more an spl driver. For the right price I guess I'd buy one but I dislike kicker. I'd go with JL, you can find used ones for not too much. New ones aren't that bad either unless you go with the high level ones.

i stand behind kicker all the way. as far as SQ, the soloX is pretty dayum clear. and ive heard the l7's and those are not bad either.

Yeah, but how much is a soloX then to push it? alot. ;)

1 soloX 12", about 1000.00
1 amp to push 1 soloX (mine), about 1200.00
the look on peoples faces when i pull up to a competition, priceless :D :D

Yeah, alot! Haha.
It's funny, Kicker and Memphis are like the only speaker brands pushed here and if you go up to ask someone if they've ever heard of a Solo X they're like "What..? Huh?" But oh no, ask about Solo Beric L5s and they're like shoo', I got me 5 of those. Kicker is so over rated here it's not funny, which is why I dislike them. Sad too, because they're not too bad of a company.. Overpriced but not too bad.
Memphis is also pushed heavily here but Memphis is utter trash.

hifonics amps are the mainstay in comps, and DD subs. and there are people who show up with 4 L7's. the L7 will hit hard wheather it is 1 or more. my friend has a 5.0 cunbertable with 1 10"L7 and 600wt apline and hit 129, and it sounds good, nice sq and its in a small sealed box

this is what you can expect out of a soloX with 2400rms watts going to it, and at less than 3/4 full volume.

Going a little off topic.....

I just don't like the square subs so I still run the "D" series solos (last of the round). They still kick arse with the exception of limited power handling, but that is another story and arguement altogether.

My questions: 1) I heard the square subs do not hold up like the round subs; that they are structurally weaker at the corners. Is this just a nasty rumor? 2) Why do I see the recone kits for the SoloX series subs?

can't speak for #1, but as to #2 it's because the solox is pretty much meant for competition and in some cases up to 10k watts. sometimes in a comp you go just a little too far and something breaks. with the recone kit you can fix it on the spot and get back into things.

because a soloX is about 1000.00 pre sub. and at 1000.00 per sub, it would be more feasable to offer a splair (kickers name for the replacement part) for a few hundred than have to buy another complete sub for another 1000.00.

the soloX 10" and 12" handle the same ammount of power (5000watts peak and 2000rms), but the soloX 18" handles 10,000 watts peak and 5000 watts rms.

i have not had any probs with my soloX 12" putting 2400rms to it. nice deep, hard hitting, make you sick to your stomache bass :D
