I have an chance to buy a new SRT4. My buddy is a service manager at a dealer and can get me one at employee discount. I will then have to sell my XD thats paid for and only has 20,000 miles on it and start payments. Its probly gonna cost me around $18,000. Im not sure what I can get for my car 2004 GLS, 03 GT spoiler, new GT wheels and tires, tinted windows, EVERY option, Chrimson red

Jump in with both feet, SRT-4 bone stock is fast, then you go to the dealer / or aftermarket for bolt on upgrades and you can be looking at 300+ crankshaft HP. good luck on getting good money for your 04 GLS, I just tried to trade my 05 GLS ,17,500 miles, 5-spd, flawless Int and Ext here in Orl, Fl and the best I could get is $9,000.so you might get $10K

Personally, if the car you're driving is a 2004 and it's paid-for, I'd keep driving that. Unless you've got the cash on hand to cover the other half of the car (since selling your Elantra is only going to get you 1/2 of what you need), I'd do the smart play and avoid payments.

Do it, if you can afford payments!!! You won't regret it, except the ****ty interior...

Do it, as long as you don't like having kidneys, HATE being able to hear and love the typical dodge "craftsmanship". Other wise, keep the Elantra. It's much better for the long-haul.

If you got the cash go for it,I think their an ugly car but very quick and fun to drive. My friend has one and after I drove it I wanted it!

Just remember, you'll have to live with it day in, day out. I know plenty of people that wanted big V8's that were loud and fast. But they couldn't live with the stiffride and the obnoxious exhaust or the thirst for PREMIUM gas on EVERY fillup.

you want an srt 4, buy a turbo kit for your car and an lsd if you want a newer model......you want the acr edition, beef up your suspension

ignorant, yes..........but somebody had to say it. lol

seriously though, your probably better off keeping your car since it's already payed off and whatnot.......and depending on your age/driving record, insurance could be another long term expense on top of your new car payments.

but its your call, these are just opinions

It's not true with everyone :) I enjoy every dollar I spend on my V8! Having over 300hp and still getting mid 20's for gas effeciency is amazing IMO :)

I was never a fan of the Srt4.. There not my style because they all look the same, unlike a hooked up Elantra.

I can see how this would be a decisional dilemna...

Honestly, I think boosting the Elantra is a better decision.

As someone said earlier, the Dodge workmanship (and short warranty), and the Fisher-Price quality plastic interior is just plain goofy. Add to that the fact that there is a significant amount of "Exhaust Drone" that gets into the cabin...and you have the perfect combination for a car that is hard to live with on a daily basis. And...your Ela is paid for...which is another bonus.

I know (the SRT-4) is pretty much hooked up right out of the box (kinda like a Sport Compact Starter Kit) and you'll own a lot of cars with no work involved, but...sometimes the small refinement areas make for a better experience, and I think that makes the expenditure to boost an Elantra a better option for overall daily driving satisfaction, all things considered (IMO).

Anyhow...if I was going to possess a 4 Cyl. Dodge of somesort...I think I'd opt for a nice OMNI GLHS or a Shelby Lancer...and then go with the STAGE 3 add-ons from the Mopar Parts Catalog...and at that point (Boosted ELA or SRT-4) I'd own you all!!! :D

But the bottom line is that it is your decision...and neither is a bad option...so pick one and be proud!

Peace,

Chill

whats the elantra going to be worth in 4 years. and whats the srt-4 going to be worth.. if you sell your.. "boosted elantra" its still....... an elantra.. but the srt-4 is one-uped on the elantra because after market parts aren't looked at in dealerships or anything.. idk man.... id say the srt 4 and get out of the elantra now... unless you wanna run it into the ground like i am..

^^^Flawed logic, IMO. Neon SRT-4 worth $18K today. Elantra $9K today. In 4 years, Neon worth about $12K (I would estimate), Elantra $4K. Neon = loss of $6K, elantra $5K. Mods rarely add resale value either, they normally hurt more than help.

Numbers are pretty-round, and not exact - but you get what I'm trying to say. The Elantra loses most of it's value right away, then doesn't have all that much more to lose - where the more expensive SRT4 has more room to depreciate.

if your not happy with the Elantra and CAN afford it, i say do it 1000%

You have to consider that the SRT4 is FACTORY modified and therefore all of its ( factory installed) modifications are Factory Warranty'd- I say this because if you decide to save that 8k and put it into your elantra for boosting and other upgrades you basically Void your warranty ( which happens to be one of the strongest selling points of the car to begin with ) and you're going to be just about out on your own when it comes to repair's. Sure, lots of guys on this board are knoledgeable and could solve 95% of those problems but what happens when they cant? Your going to be stuck out in the cold with a Modd'ed Elantra that no one wants to touch. Honestly, what Straus, Pep-Boys etc or even Mom and Pop service center has experience with a Turbo'd Hyundai Elantra? Probably not too many. So then you pay out the ARSE to have whatever it is thats broken Fixed by a Hi-Po Service Shop

If you have the need for speed and a turbo is #1 on your things to do list, go with the SRT4- in the end, it will probably save lots of headache's

thats just guesstimating.... and what i meant about aftermarket.. you could put in a $4k turbo in your $9k elantra... it'll be worth... $5k...later. SRT COMES with a turbo.. so it'll be worth more.... THATS what i meant..

Just remember, you have to manually roll down the rear windows in an SRT-4.

The only reason I didn't buy one (srt-4), was it ain't tall person friendly. I couldn't fit in the damn thing. Forget pedal operation. I had my knees up to my chin. I fit in the elantra comfortably. Even the salesperson couldn't believe it.....Just a point of view..

Didnt buy the SRT4. I thought about it and the payments. I just bought a bike in Oct. I drove it and loved the power and hated the ride and comfort. I drive 80 miles a day in heavy traffic every day back and forth to work. I feel I made the right decision.

could not have said it better...an xd turbo'd is just as fast...especially if you throw in the quaife unit! you can actually make it faster...and it would be a sleeper and not have to pay outragous insurance! :D

I personally like the SRT-4 and would trade my elantra for one right now, though trade in is out of the question...hell I would trade my elantra for a bone stock elantra (plus a small amount extra) one right now so I could do a trade in for one.

I'm 6' 8", so there ain't no way I could ever own a car ANY smaller than the Elantra, although I have been thinking about biulding a Locost7 which is even smaller. But at the same time, it wouldn't be a everyday driver.
