i got a pioneer 3800mp deck, 2 amps in the back one for subs and one for component speakers. if i were to only use one set of preamps and then split them off in my trunk with y adapters, would this cause any problems or show a loss in voltage?

If you are keeping them as short as possible and using high quality cables you should have no noticeable loss.

nope...you will be good to go...i had splitters in my excel...what you dont have three pre-outs?
you should have front, rear, and a non fading sub output...does your deck only have one?

well my old deck only had one set, so i was stuck to using one set of RCA's and 2 y-adapters. itd be nice if i didnt have to run another set of rca's down my car, but i think im just gonna end up doing that anyways.

using the 2 pairs of rcas will allow you more adjusting from the hu: ie. crossover points, sub level, fading, etc. however, splitting the signal will work just fine also. after all, cds only contain stereo sound so you really only need 1 pair of rcas to carry all the information. using y-adaptors will also cut the signal voltage each amp is receiving in half.

Splitting the signal creates a weak point which greatly increases the chances of introducing signal noise into the system. I'd say run another set of RCA's if possible.
