all right well i spent a couple of hours installing my new deck and wiring everything for my sub. i was pretty happy with everything i had accomplished....only to realize that i forgot to run my remote signal from the headunit!! is there some other easily accesible place for me to get the remote signal from? it only took me a couple of minutes to take the dash apart but it took me a while and lots of adjusting to get my deck to sit right. if i have to take it apart again i will but really would rather not.
thanks for the help guys

well...not safely that i can think of...it comes on with the head unit and goes off with it...just run the wire right and dont worry about it getting ****ed up later...

i read on another forum that they ran it from the fuse that controls the headunit. that would be easier than taking the dash apart again. what do you think?

i would say do it right, but its your car...i have personally had bad experiences running wires to fuses (i.e small fires in my mustang cause i half assed the foglight wiring)...but its your car...

Im with soulless, You should do it right and not ever have to worry about it again. Plus, you shouldn't have to fiddle with the head unit to make it sit right, so checking everything back there again would probably be a good thing.

splice the line running from the audio/accessory fuse. that should work fine. thats what most audio places do if there's no remote input on the stereo.

Doing it the right way could end up saving you time in the long run, if you ever have a problem with you system you can troubleshoot and automatically elimate the system remote as your remote turn on.
shouldnt be all that hard to do, when you take out your headunit and put everthng back in right, youll know you never have to take it out again. always make sure everything turns on and works before remounting the cd player.

I agree with everyone. Do it right. And now that you have taken the dash apart once, you know how to do it again with ease. It will be a 5 minute job instead of a 30 minute job.

0k then i'll do it. taking the dash apart took me no time at all, it was getting the little beaty ring to fit around the headunit. the dash fascia is so tight that it was allowing the headunit cover (don't know what to call the pos) to click into position. that part took me forever. i was frustrated yesterday but i'm feeling better today. i'm about to leave on a half day fishing trip so when i get back i'll do it right. thanks guys.

i tried it without the beauty ring and it looked like a hack job.
my ring didnt fit at all
but it looks just fine without it, Very small gaps, not even worth filling or cutting something
as for the remote, of course you SHOULD run it right, but cmon occasionally someone out there gets lazy.. lol
In the 99 elantra wagon my dad had, the cigarette light shut off when you killed the ignition. I grabbed the book and looked up which fuse it was and then i actually just pulled the fuze, wrapped the wire around it and plugged it back in. The fuze block was very close to the side molding, so i just ran right into it and back to the amp. It looked fine and worked just fine. My dad had the car like that for over a year before he sold it and it never caused any problems.
of course it was a terrible idea and i shouldnt have done it, but it did work just fine.. heh - course i still recommend doing it right and i myself would do it right as well.. just saying that everyone has there moments
