Although most of us are North Americans we do have quite a international group of people here and I'm sure there are some people interested in the World Cup.
So, are you watching the World Cup?

I have been watching it off and on. I heard that they are using a new ball, the Adidas Teamgeist, that has less sewn panels (it has 14 compared to most that have 26 to 32). They were saying that this ball is the more round and smoother than any other which will make the ball have a different ball flight.

I've been watching it here and there. I had taped it on our HD Tuner hard drive last night, but I watched the news and heard that the England v Paraguay game ended 1-0. Then I watched the game, and Beckham scored in the first 3 mins so it was pointless watching the rest.
I'll probably be watching the U.S. vs Czech game tomorrow, hopefully live, but we'll see.

I want to watch the game tomorrow but I'll be at work.

I saw the Mexico vs. Iran yesterday, decent game. On friday I went to Circuit City and the had Ecuador vs Poland on the HD TVs so I was watching for like 45 mins with bunch of other people.
Oh hells yes I am. There's nothing better than a WC, ok maybe normal Premiership action is better week in and week out, but the WC is awesome. Screw you work and keeping me busy for most of the 1st half of the US game.

Yes, USA is one of my teams along with KNVB (Holland/Netherlands).
USA did look horrible from what I heard, didn't get to watch (damn work).
Brazil looked ok today, Ronaldo was non-existant. France was just horrible.
The commentary has been ok so far in the games I have been able to watch. Camera crew needs some work though.

KOREA WON! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone knows that when Koreans are happy they build better Hyundais. I guess if we use this same equation that the Sonatas and new Santa Fes are going to be crappy for us over here. Crappy Americans and their crappy soccer team.
kk4real
06-14-2006, 09:00 AM
Korea barely won - if Jean-Paulnot Abalo on that To-Go team (Do you what your meal for here, or to go?) did not double yellow card -> red card out of the game, then they probably would not have gotten the first goal, leaving them in a 1-1 tie. I was very dissappointed in the performance of their 'rising young Asian stars' Chun Soo Lee and Jae Jin Cho.
I watch because I love soccer and as I understand it, one of the main reasons soccer has not caught on in America is because the lack of media support for the sport. American media refuses to support soccer because you only get 15 minutes of commercials between halves. (this is when everyone is going to the washroom before the next half) This is not like American sports where you have timeouts every 5 minutes and tv breaks all the time.
It must be an A.D.D. thing - where nobody can pay attention for that long without their medicine...
brazil and france looked terrible yesterday. so far this morning spain is up 2-nil in the first 15 minutes and for once actually looks good.

Did anyone see the Saudi Arabia - Tunisia game? OMG it was amazing. 1-0 @ halftime Tunisia was up and dominating.... 2nd half Saudi scored in the 67th minute, and then again in the 80th minute..... thought for sure they were gonna upset Tunisia. But in stoppage time Tunisia tied it. damn im glad i watched that game. Cant wait for USA vs Italy on Saturday!

I read that the "Man of the Match" award for the Tunisia - SA game was going to go to a guy on the SA team, and luckily Tunisia scored again so they gave it to the guy on Tunisia. Apparently the SA team members can't accept the award because it's sponsored by Bud.

Yeah I think the best game so far has been Saudi Arabia vs Tunisia. Both teams played sloppily and you can tell they're no where near the caliber of the Brazilians, but there were some AWESOME goals in that game.
I thought it was funny how the players of the African team (Tunisia) looked mostly middle-eastern, and the Middle-Eastern team (Saudi Arabia) were mostly of African ancestry! I personally think the Saudi Arabians are paying African players good money and then giving them Saudi citizenship because most of the guys on their team were straight up black. They weren't even mixed at all, like you would see in the South American teams.

Well USA tied Italy today 1-1. However they are still yet to score a goal in any world cup hosted in Europe..... Italy scored on they're own goal. If any of you were lucky enough to watch the game you would have seen the pathetic excuse of a Referee. (if for some reason your too cool to watch World Cup.... The ref showed 3 Red Cards... 2 to USA players and 1 to an Italian player.) The Italian player had a completely deserving card after Elbowing McBride in the face. But both the calls on the 2 american players were completely unnecessary. Pope's Red should have been a yellow if not no card at all and just a foul, and as for Mastroeni..... that was not a foul deserving of a Yellow or Red card... just a late takle, and that was his first foul of the game. BS..... I've Reffed soccer for about 8 years now. I've done everything from little 6yr old kids to 19yr old state level, and even reffed a couple of Long Island Ruff Rider games (long Island Pro Team). I've moved up the ladder a little bit, and it takes many many years to be able to ref FIFA play. I have no idea how someone like that could ever make it to the big show. He shouldnt even be allowed to ref High School level soccer in the Desert of Afganistan! anyway USA still has a chance after the UPSET (BUT GOOD FOR US) Loss of Ghana over Chec Republic. Thursday USA plays Ghana for they're last chance to advance to the 2nd round. DO OR DIE!
Yep, the ref completly ruined the game! Ruined it for both Italian and US fans, especially US. The first red was a good call, looked like an intentional elbow. Second one was COMPLETE BS, just to even the teams. Third red to Pope was also BS but man I still can't get over the second red card! Let the ****ing players play!
US looked real good in the first 15-20 minutes prior to the over reffing.

I watched the USA vs. Italy game, it was really an amazing match! The most exhilarating match I've seen in the World Cup so far.
I reckon the elbowing offence to McBride was the best part, not in a condescending way, just that it was really exciting to watch, and got my heart pumping. The Uruguay referee was really handing out red/yellow cards like candy! ;) It's a match I'll remember for a long time, and I'm not even into soccer!
Tonight I'm going to be watching the Aussies vs. Brazil, and World Cup Fever has hit our nation! :D
It starts here @ 2am, and a crowd of 65,000 is expected to watch on the BIG screen in Federation Square (www.federationsquare.com.au/) and more public transport has been put into place to cope.
I'm really excited! :D
Please watch!

Go Korea!
A tie with France proves that they are getting better and better -- 5-0 loss in 1998, 3-2 loss in 2002, 1-1 tie in 2006!
Go USA!
Make it past the first round!
If the USA can beat Ghana and Italy beats the Czech Republic...they will advance!
Sometimes you spot interesting things on people at World Cups.

Wow, now it is looking like France could go all of the way!
I'm not a French fan at all, but watching Zidane play is exciting.
He has nice passing and ball handling skills.
I would love to see Portugal beat France since they have not been in a World Cup final ever.
That way, Germany could bash the French in a 3rd place match.

OMFG italy is getting robbed... the ****ing refs said their second goal was offsides but when you see the friggin replay ITS NOT! Thus Italy already won this game 2-1.
HAHAHHAHAHAH Zidane (red carded) is such an idiot... he friggin ****ed himself and the French over.... such an asshole.
He just randomly went up to an italian playing and head butted him FOR NO REASON... the ball wasn't even near them..
I love it cuz the whole time the stupid american announcers were saying how "great" and "classy" this Zidane guy is/was, well guess what if any of you saw that, that guy just lost all his respect.
But whatever ITALY WINSSS! :multiples

I wouldn't say for no reason, I'm sure he said something in order to receive a crazy hardcore headbutt like that. Either way, he did screw it up for the team. Although Henry should have stayed in also for the kicks. Oh wells.
Congrats to Italy.
Anyone else feeling pissed about Zidane?!! WTF was he thinking??!! It the biggest game in football (arguably biggest game in any sport) and for him to lose his cool. I feel so pissed now, not because France lost but because he (ZZ) bows out in such unprofessional and childish manner. His selfish BS will taint his legacy big time, the fans deserved better.
I am happy Italy won considering everything. Italy did deserve to win, the PK call was BS and second goal was legit. Score should have been 0-2 Italy.

I heard that Zidane's dad is a Muslim, and his mom is sick in the hospital right now. So he was in a really bad mood when the dude he head butted called him a "f***ing terrorist" (or something alone those lines)... Still now reason to head butt the guy that hard though.
It was a darn powerful headbutt though!
So whats this world cup i keep hearing about?... eh, just another news item to add to my "ignore" list... oh wait, i add every item to that list and never watch the news or pay attention to current events... ever! i was prolly the last to know about every major issue or disaster in the past 20 years. hehe
