View Full Version : Can you tighten the gas pedal?

One thing I miss about my Pontiac is once I got it to a certain speed, the weight of my foot + the pressure of the spring made the pedal stay still, so I rarely EVER used the cruise control. Now that my Elantra does not have cruise control, I figured it wouldn't matter. But my leg was getting tired as hell trying to regulate a 60 mph speed on the way home today. The gas pedal just pushes in easier than the Pontiac. Is there any way to simply tighten it, where the pedal pushes in a bit stiffer?

interesting question, I suppose I would look for a pivot point somewhere near the gas pedal that is screwed/bolted in and tighten that further? Sorry if i'm not much help here lol!

or maybe find a way to add a heavy spring to said pivot point?

I'm no expert in this area, but I believe the 'resitance' of the pedal is controlled by the spring on the throttle-body (at the end of the throttle-cable in the engine-bay). I think if that spring were stiffer, the pedal would be stiffer.

Try tightening the throttle cable, that really helped me. And it seemed to help the throttle response as well. I used tharptroy's free horsepower suggstion. Here's the link: http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2942&highlight=throttle+cable

I don't suggest that you modify the pedal feel .. it can become a liability... specially if you over-do it and then the pedal jams and you run over a bunch of kids crossing the road to school........
