It depends ... free software or a paying one?
Paying softwares ;
- Adobe Première (it's the one I use, I found an old version (6.5) for 50$ on eBay, cheap and very good)
Free ones ;
- Windows movie makers ... I don't know any others free video editing softwares! :(

Premiere is nice but I prefer Sony Vegas 6.0, great for beginners and experts.

the software I use to transfer videos from vcr/vhs tapes to dvd is hauppage wintv to do the actual capture (unlike most capture cars, mine has a hardware encoder) , then nanopeg editor to edit out the commercials, and finally ulead movie factory to burn to dvd (it came with the card), but will be upgrading the software later on.

I also use Adobe Premiere. It's plenty powerful, never crashes on me, and it's not too difficult to learn.
If you have a Mac I'd check out Final Cut Pro.

I'm not sure if it was PC World or PC Magazine that did the review, but basically they were saying how a lot of the basic $100 programs from Adobe work almost as well as their professional programs, but at a much cheaper price. They said for most people, Adobe Premier Elements would be all they need, and if they needed to do something that the Elements program didn't offer, most likely they would be the type to have purchased the professional version in the first place.

SWortham : if it's just to edit some home movies the iLife suit is just perfect, I need more (I use Premiere and After Effects) but I use iMove and iDVD for my home movies and they are just great! Final Cut Pro is really only if you need REAL professionnal video editing, IMO it's kinda overkill for home movies ...
AVID free, if it still exists, is a free program based off of AVID software, the standard for most movies. check it out at I thik avidfree.com. there are even tutorials to use.
I agree that Adobe Premiere is good stuff, it was what I used when I was editing commercials for school, and AE is good for slide shows with pics. Makes it really easy.

Yeah Sony Vegas is nice and a lot better than Windows Movie Maker IMO. However unless you "acquire" it somewhere it'll set you back about $500.

Can I make a suggestion? An opposing color shadow or blur behind your text would make it much easier to read.

if my internet at home didnt' suck (dialup) i'd "aquire" them on my own. i can't put limewire or anything else on this computer(i'm at work) to download those other ones so i'm stuck with the free ones.

errr ... c'mon guys ... if you want to pass infos on downloading software on bit torrent or others P2P do so by MP ... I'm working for a video game company and not buying software is money you take directly into the pockets of the workers, and more then you think of!
In the video game industry overtime is not paid, instead you get a bonus at the end of the year and the number of sales is taken into account when they calculate that bonus ... so the less is sold the smaller we get paid!!!
So please, pay for it, used if you want but please at least by a copy if you like it!

Um jalmir I work for a software development company & while I understand what your saying, your product is only as good as it is designed and if its not selling then its not selling because its not what John Q Public is looking for.
I have paid for almost ALL my software, what I havent paid for I acquired through work. So what I'm offering is not your typical "warez" as you may see it.
I do see a problem in torrents and p2p but is it something we can stop or even slow down? HELL NO because if I'm not mistaken piracy in North America isnt even as bad or even as close of a problem compared to norway or any other european/asian country.
btw please tell me you dont work for DICE.

I understand that some softwares don't sell because they are badly design, what I'm talking about is the softwares that do sell but that you find thousands of seeds on torrents ... THAT hurt ...
I also have paid for all my softwares and games and 80% of them are from my company! lollll (I can have them cheap if not free)
And no I'm not working for Dice but Ubisoft in Montreal !!! :D

oh lord the montreal ubisoft team. Well I guess you have to start somewhere.....what happened with RS:Lockdown man?!?! j/k.
I will agree with you though, torrents are evil always have been. Never have I showed any support for them and I think its hilarious when people say "with torrents I wont get caught". Are they really that stupid? I guess so if their using torrents.

haha yeah, we caught the first guy that leaked SplinterCell : Chaos Theory Xbox ... torrent or not they can trace you! and it was a Microsoft employee ... loll
And for lockdown I don't know, I wasn't on that team, all I know is that directors were not in the Rainbow six mood ... lolll (even some ppl that I know that was working on it knew that they were taking the wrong direction ... hey! but what some "production workers" do know about making games ... cough cough ... )

I hate to keep it OT but I'm glad to hear that side of things about Lockdown. Being that I'm a HUGE Rainbow Six fan, the community was up in arms at Montreal Ubisoft over it. I hear that the Vegas edition is being developed by the Euro team, not sure if thats true or not.
Thats no surprise about the MS employee, always the people you least think would do it are the ones to blame.

No Vegas is "made in Montreal" ... but I saw the work they did and rest asure that it wont be a "lockdown 2" ;)
