I played my first airsoft game today. OH HOLY **** WAS IT FUN! Except getting shot in the lip, it was a total blast! I had a crappy lil mini-uzi that was single shot, and hard as hell to cockback, but it had decent range and accuracy, I got some kills with it.

I also noticed it is a HELL of a lot cheaper then paintball! And hurts less!

So I was wondering, is anyone else playing airsoft? Im thinking about getting into it a lot more...anyone want a Tippmann Model 98 paintball gun? haha :D

I did for a summer a couple years ago. I had a Tokyo Marui Ak-47 and then I picked up a Tokyo Marui FN P-90. Unfortunately the group I was playing with kinda just stopped playing. I sold off all my stuff last summer to make a couple of my car payments on my Elantra.

I had a blast playing it and I'm hoping to eventually get back into it with a serious group. I've never done paintball, so I can't really compare the two. But I do know airsoft in the long run is much cheaper. Plus in my opinion it's a more realistic war sim.

Can you describe how airsoft works? Is it like a BB gun with a much slower shot?

I think paintball is overrated. Here in SoCal, we have to drive all the way out to the boonies to play, where it's hot and dry. And it just seems like the people who go are either

a) spoiled rich white kids whose parents drop them off for the day and they have the latest and greatest gear and just stand in the back unloading all their paintballs

b) grown up military-rejects who comes and plays in clans as if it was some real life Counterstrike game. Most of them take paintball way too serious and act as if they're some manly-man. Give me a break.

We have a fairly large military community in northwest florida and its pretty popular here. Played it a couple of times when I was with ROTC and it was a blast. Everyone was out in BDU's and they work pretty well. I was pinned down for about 1/2 an hour by this small girl cause I couldn't see her. She finally got taken out from when my team saw I was pinned and she wasn't firing anywhere but at me. I think we took it a bit seriously playing in the woods, climbing high up trees (not a good idea in the long run of the game), swimming through a small creek, but it was a blast. No one got hurt, except the girl taking pictures who decided to wear a sleeveless shirt) and we all had a good time.

Airsoft guns are basically BB guns that look copy real firearms as closely as possible. They usually fire a 6mm plastic BB of varying weights. Some guns need to be cocked every time you shoot it, they are called springers and are usually pretty cheap, with a few exceptions being high powered sniper like weapons. Then there are gas and electric powered guns, these guns are more expensive and shoot either full auto or semi auto. Airsoft is usually cheaper in the long run because if you purchase a good quality electric gun, also known as AEG (automatic electric gun), that will cost anywhere from $200 up to $400. These guns compete easily stock and can be easily upgraded. So you could put $500 into a gun and upgrades and have yourself a nice piece. And from what I know of paintball a good marker costs about that much. And then the saving comes in ammo and power source. You use batteries to power the gun and the 6mm BBs are about $10 for several thousand BBs.

Yea, with airsoft thier either spring, electric, or gas powered. So right there, there is a difference in cost, since you don't need to fill up 10-20oz of CO2 or compressed air to play. Also in ammo. It can be up to like, $10 for 2k rounds of paintballs, but only like $5 for 6k BB's.

And yea, thier plastic BB's, so thier soft and the max range of the guns seems to be mostly under 200 feet, but the BB's travel faster than that, but they dont hurt bad.

When I played with my friends, three of us, including me, were in FULL camo head to toe, and it was at night. It was SO much fun espically since it was almost impossible to see us.

Check out www.airsplat.com for some stuff, im thinking about picking up one of the sniper rifles, hehe. Then we'll have two snipers.

And for the $50 for the marker, lemme think on it. I need to go through and find what all stuff I have. Im going to be keeping the mask though for the airsoft.

Thats another beauty of airsoft, all you need for protection is jeans, long sleeve shirt, and eye protection.

Airsoftretreat forums (http://www.airsoftretreat.com/)
Go check out these forums for anything airsoft related. I was a member when I was playing. Lots of info and good people. They have a classifieds section too.

How would you know if someone was hit though?

It's all on the 'honor system'.

That's gay. Most paintball players already just wipe it off if they can. How can you expect people to actually admit to being shot when there's no physical evidence?

Airsoft is usually a smaller and more 'honest' game, whereas in my expereince paintball is a whole lot of poeple trying to say "they won" rather than enjoying the spirit of the game.

Play with people you trust. And usually you can see someone react when they've been shot.

^^^Yeah, they've got a little more sting to them when you get hit vs. a paintball. It's more of a sharp-piercing feeling, where a paintball is more of a dull 'punch' type of impact.

Especially if you hit a soft spot. I've been hit in the lip, nose and ear. I think the nose was the worst one. Although the ear stayed red longer than the others. My brother got a couple in the junk one time. He was down for quite a few minutes.

I play paintball all the time. Only woods ball, and with people I know usually, which helps with the honesty issue. I love it.

I have never played real airsoft, but we have airsoft wars at our fraternity house, which is fun mainly because you can hold it over thier head, or hold them down and just unload on the person.

This is my fully-auto airsoft MP5 in action: http://media.putfile.com/MOV00981-38

It shoot 6mm paintballs, so I can see when someone gets shot.

Me and a few of my friends did a some close quarters battles in an apartment complex that was being built. It was awesome... walking around clearing out rooms and ****.

I have a spring-cocked MP5 that looks exactly like that, only it has 2 firing modes and a safe mode, but its still 1 shot? Either way I busted that out and my mini-MP5 thats full auto and dominated last time we played. ITS SO MUCH FREAKING FUN! But getting shot in the temple hurts like a biatch. I still want a auto rifle though...

Why does it have 2 firing modes if it's spring-cocked, and only one shot? WTF is the 2nd mode?

One is fire, the other is "safe-fire" (???) or so the manual states, and the other is safe on. So I have no idea really, I just throw it in fire and pummel my friends. Im getting pretty speedy shooting now.
