eh, im bored so heres a funny story for you all

im sitting here at work...somewhat dead, about 1/2 the office here. i sit between two black women. one is about 30-32, the other is 21. the 30 y/o is sitting on the phone for a few min and is like "this is the longest answering machine ever"...puts it on speakerphone, and i let her know its one of those ringtones people put on their phones...she proceeds to say how she thinks its "ghetto" that someone would put a rap song on as a ringtone/whatever you want to call it...then the younger one jumps in "why does it have to be ghetto caus theres a rap song on the ringtone"...older one tells her "not everyone has the same taste in music and I think its ghetto"....well, this goes on for a second and i can see them both starting to get heated, then comes the "shut up" "no you shut up" "dont tell me to shut up"...so my supervisor jumps in....just a quick "GUYS...calm down"...they keep going and then i can see it about to explode...at that point, my supervisor (a 36 year old country girl from the sticks) yells

"GUYS. DON'T MAKE ME GET GHETTO UP IN HERE!"

at this point, im rolling laughing, the girls keep fighting and about 2 seconds later she takes them both into the conference room with another supervisor to chew them out...theyre in there for a couple minutes, and we hear them start yelling AGAIN. 5 min later they come out, both pissed...but we're all sitting here laughing knowing they just started a huge fight over rap music as a ring tone.

god i love working in collections. fights like this will always arise

I i wasn't in the fight, i just sit between them

and the "dont make ME get ghetto up in here" made me laugh the hardest because its coming from a 36 year old straight country woman. she decided to tell me a couple weeks ago (just started supervising this dept) that she grew up in the ghetto...out of no where...i had to try so hard not to laugh. it was great

That's freakin hilarious. Funny crap like that used to happen all the time when I worked in a call center. Heck, even I got sent home for a whole month (with pay) after one of my co-worker (who I've been friends with for like 4 years) got all heated from a conversation, threw stuff at his desk, and got so stressed he had to take an immediate smoke break.

I wasn't the one that threw a tantrum, but I was sent home on paid administrative leave for the "safety of myself and others". The other guy wasn't sent home.

Basically, a lot of the employees were unhappy after the Cingular takeover. I was one of the few people there that spoke my mind. A few days before this incident, I had talked to HR about the legality of what Cingular was asking us to perform, when I was hired on specifically as Help Desk.

To make a long story short, after Cingular took over ATT, they had more than 60,000 employees in the customer services dept alone. ATTWS as a whole company prior to the takeover only had 30,000 employees. They were/are purposely getting people to either quit or get fired (thereby lowering costs and not having to pay a leave package). It took them more than a month to figure out a way to fire me, and since I'm in California and we're all at-will employees, I could be terminated for almost any reason. In the end, I was fired for a whole other BS reason that had nothing to do with the argument.

In the 5 years I worked for ATTWS/Cingular, none of us knew of a single instance of someone who got fired that ended up getting unemployment. They always contested it in court and won. When I talked to the people at the unemployment office, they awarded me the case right away and Cingular never even disputed it.

What I find funny was that they had to make up a BS reason to fire me when all they could have said was "his attendance was poor". In the 5 years I worked, I was practically late everyday to work and everyone knew I had one of the worst attendance. The joke around the office if you were playing hookie or calling in sick was "I'm gonna pull a Vat today".
