Does anyone know off hand what the thread is on the shifter knob? I just purchased a brand new 06 XD2 5sp. This is acutally my 3rd elantra, both previous were 99s and autotragics. I want to swap the shifter or maybe fabricate my own.

Thanks,
Jon

not to sound like a dick, but i dont recall reading "what are peoples thoughts on aftermarket shift knobs?"

so would it be ricey if i crafted a shift knob out of clay/quicksteeel to fit the shape of my hand/fingers and tapped it to fit the shifter?

Who cares.. Are you done trying to make a stink about what I said?

And yes a shiftknob made out of clay and quicksteel would be rice in my book. :)

I was going to install the Hello Kitty one with blue and pink LEDs but I can see where you might think that was ricey.

I haven't decided on which one yet but there are plenty of classy designs out there. Thanks for the help. Although not neccessary in my case I appreciate the anti-rice patrol here.

WOW I swear people dont fuc*ing listen.. I was not being negative, I was just speaking my opinion.. If I said what I said in this thread over on Eclub no one would call me negative because they would know that I was just speaking my mind about how I felt about something.

I better stop now before a mod or James steps in and gets the last word and locks this, because we all know thats how its done on XD.

I didnt mean to jack your thread DESIGN.. Back on topic....

The XD has the best shifter available and if you change it you are a big dork.....

OK, just kidding, I really like the shifter on mine, but not everyone has the same size hands or may not like the leather, or may desire a different colour. Enjoy the change and give SilverBullet a break, he is allowed to have his own opinions too. :)

I've had the car for a total of 2-1/2 days so I haven't decided if I really like the shifter yet. My beautiful wife is the one that will driving it most of the time and she is small with much shorter arms than I have. I am looking into a short throw shifter and while I was at it I was considering a differrent knob. There is a Korean somewhere that put a lot of thought into that ball and would faint at the thought of changing it but hey it's my car now.

As far as forum attitude it's nothing new. I was part of the original TeamSR boards, HP boards, Contour.org, and others. I won't go unplug my DSL and hide in a cave surrounded by car parts I can't seem to install if you guys are mean to me. I know it was a noob question and I should have searched but how would you guys get to know me if I only stood on the shoulders of the XD tuning giants here and never posted anything?

i have been thru a few different shifters...stock plastic, ricey "c/f" one from autozone (lasted like 3 days), B&M aluminum ball and then right now i have an OEM GT leather shift knob. i like the leather knob i have now. only thing i may try in the future is a OEM tib 5-speed leather knob...sorta flat on the top and looks NICE

There was a member here who made the automatic shifter shorter and put a momo shift knob on his car and it looked great.

i've been thinking about picking up the OEM leather shift knob.. looks pretty cool. i like the way the OEM feels itself.. but leather would be better :)

Well so far out of all the cars i've had I like the OEM on on my 02 GT. Now I hate leather (don't ask why I have the gt then it just happend to be the car around that I settled for a while back) but it looks great and so far after a year still feels great to ram through each gear with. Just don't make the mistake I did when I was cleaning, I sorta wasn't paying attention and cleaned it as if it was part of the trim and long story short it took a few weeks for it to stop being slippery. on a side note does any one know about how much an oem shift bag will cost me? I would go to the dealer but thats a day and a half drive for me (not really but close enough).
