I have always thought that one, the stock shift knob is hideous, and two it was too high . So tonight i got my self an aluminum spehere shift knob, goes on with set screws, i cut 1.5 inches off and reattached the knob, overall it looks ALOT better than stock and the throw is a little harder but it feels more precise. Basically a ghetto mod for anyone thinking about cutting the stocky .. No replacment for a short shifter but it cost me 12 bucks so it's cool .

I'm with WytchDctr, I like the stock knob the best. It fits my hands quite nice. Now if my short shifter will just arrive...

You can always get a shifter for the tib for $30 and install it on the car. Throw feels the same but I think it's almost an inch shorter.

Yeah! My shifter came in today. My son gave me a hand and we put the new shifter (01 tib short shifter) in 40 minutes. THe advice was great from everyone on the forum on doing this, so I didn't have to worry about how to do any of it except for how to remove the retaining washer(?). I took the easy way out when I realized that jamming a screwdriver in there wasn't gonna fo it. The tool to use for that part is a dremel, 10 seconds after putting the cutting wheel on, the part was off and no noticable damage to the mount.

That lock washer is the hardest thing to get off.

If someone is going to spend $30 on a GK Tib shifter, I would recommend them to just save the money for an actual short shifter. The GK shifter feels decent until you get something like a TWM. To this day I feel stupid for wasting $25 on the GK shifter when I spent $90 for the TWM. For me, I learned that I hate doing a mod twice.

If lack of funds was an issue and you really had to do a mod for around $30, go get some Kartboy linkage bushings instead. It will make your shifting experience a night and day difference.

Anyway, back on topic, for some reason I always stuck with the stock shift knob. It has a nice weight and feel, and it matches with the interior. Maybe it's also the fact that there's really no place to try out a shifter in your hands first without buying it. Not to mention, for just a shift knob, some places charge an arm and a leg for it.

I guess an arm and a leg = 99 bucks at TWM. The weighted shift knob I want to go with the shifter I want from them is that much. It's sweet though. I'm willing to pay the dough. I get a discount because I'm in the military there though so it's not so bad.

I've also wanted to get the weighted TWM shift knob, but I haven't been able to justify the cost just yet. Since the stock shift knob is already a bit heavy, I figure it can't be worth $100 just for a slightly heavier one.
