Goodyear resident Lawrence Pargo was caught four times by the freeway camera system, officials said, at the speeds of 102, 105, 128 and 147 mph between 5:47 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. in his Hyundai Sonata.

It could be, possibly, that the city’s speed radar equipment malfunctioned,” Steve Spence, the managing editor of Car and Driver magazine, recently told the Tribune. “When we test-drove the Sonata, our driver got it up to 137 mph — and that’s as fast as it would go. We don’t believe the Hyundai Sonata can go 147 mph.”

Sweet - and the car was a rental.

Good story. It will be interesting to see what the result of that court case is.

When they first put those cameras up some guy got clocked doing 150 in his porche and than all of a sudden everybody was trying to beat his record. They had them up for two weeks and said they are testing them and none of the tickets would count but that only lasted a little over a week because they started doing the un-official record and I think the guy was going to put up like a couple g's if you came with the ticket to prove you beat his time.

Plenty of cars capable of going well over 150 mph. I'd rent an exotic and do it. When it was all said and done his couple g's would have paid for the rental. =)
