I'm still looking for another car and I've found some of these with low miles at a decent price.
They are 173 HP stock with the potential to get over 200 HP with a few, cheap mods.
What do you know about these cars? My sister has an '02 Jetta 4 cyl and loves it.
For the price I could do a lot to the car. Turbo's are somewhat expensive, but if I can get it over 200 HP I'd be pretty happy.

The VR6 is an awesome engine. Lots of power to be had pretty easily. Aftermarket support is pretty darn good for VW's, too. They aren't cheap to repair, though. Parts are expensive...

dont get a jetta. do it right with a VR6 GTi. if you get a VR6 jetta then you want a Vr6 GTi in about a week.

But it costs a lot more. I don't want to spend that much.

I was doing some research and saw that in 2000 they released the 1.8 Turbo Jetta. However, from what I read and I could definitely be wrong, the VR6 still had more horsepower than the 1.8 turbo.

True, but the 1.8t is a lot lighter than the VR6. There's not really a huge diff. in performance stock vs. stock, and there's lots of aftermarket support for both.

2 words = Maintenance Nightmare. VW is not exactly the cornerstone of reliability. They also cost a buttload to repair. Other than the maintenance aspect, I think it's a nice car.

Every time I've even considered getting a VW I get the same peice of advise...DON'T. From what I've been told they break down often, repairs are expensive, just not worth it. I had a used car salesman tell me not to buy a VW that he had on the lot. No personal experience with them but from what I've been told, stay away. (My roommate ended up buying a 99 v6 accord 2dr for $5000 off the same salesperson.)

Hmmm...I sense a theme.
