So on a 05 gls there are these two hooks embedded in the floor (one on the driver’s side and one on the passenger side). I assume they are there for the OEM floor mats or something but I want them out. I tried to pull and/or twist a little but they didn’t show signs of coming out easily and I don’t really want to damage the floor. I thought I'd ask you guys before I go pulling like a monkey and tearing it all out.

anybody know how to remove them the proper way?

If they are nearest the seats, then yes, those are the floor mat hooks? Why do you want to tear them off? Im not sure, but they look as if you would have a hole in the carpet if you took them off. I dont use those hooks, even with the OEM floor mats. I just lay the mat over the tow hook. After 2.5 years, it has not been a problem.

If you are trying to get rid of them for some aftermarket floormats...try to get your hands on a dremel with one of those little sandpaper type disk. Just cut the thing down to achieve flatness. Then lay the much nicer floormats right over it.

yeah i've got some all weather mats because GA's infamous red clay ruins everything, so the hooks do get in the way.

i did think about the leftover-hole issue, but i was going to tackle that issue when I got there.

cutting them off is a pretty good idea.

but like, do they just twist out?

why not just cut a hole in the aftermarket mat? That's what I did and it holds the mat fine.

Go to www.hmaservice.com and see if they have some instructions. They should. I'd look in my shop manual but it's packed up right now, sorry.

I have the OE stock mats and weathertech floor mats on top. I have not had any problems. I did not need to cut the hooks or make holes in the mats. I simply laid the mats on the hook and i have had no problem.

When I bought my 02, the hooks were out and I had to reinstall them. The one end of it is hinged (the end facing the pedals), and the other just snaps shut. Just make sure you're trying to pull open the end facing the seats and they shouldn't be a problem to remove.

ah okay. so if i press in with a panel remover or heck evan a flathead on the rear of it, it should just lift forward. cool. i'm gona try moving the mats too to see if they just squish over the hooks.
