Okay, so I may be stupid, but I bought an aftermarket shifter for my 05, but when I took apart the stock one, I realized that there are 2 holes for the screws on the rod, but 4 on the new knob. I have seen a couple of the guys on here with this particular knob on. Do I have to tap new holes or what.
This is the knob that I have. I have already searched the forum, but there aren't any clear answers to my question.

those 4 screws are just set screws. Just screw it down onto the stick evenly so that it's centered and tight. You probably want to check them every now and then to make sure they don't loosen.

okay.. here's the problem.

Those set screws aren't long enough to keep the knob in place, two, if you set it in the hole, the button won't reach the pin. .. and if you use the lower hole, you won't be able to get out into park and your key will be stuck in car

i 'had' it at the right length by sanding down one of those black adaptors and putting it inside the knob... (as in the pic)..

but my girlfriend pulled it off.. and stripped the screw..so i just set the knob on the shifter face... and removed the knob's button.. put the pin through the hole.. and now i have a vacuum cap on pin as a button.. lemme see if i can find a pic.

here it is.

i forgot.. you can use the button that comes with the knob.. but you'll have to 'bore' out the hole to fit the pin...

its on my to do list.. lol.

Here's the problem. I just took it apart again, and there is nowhere for the new knob to screw onto. Only the two vertical screw holes.

Oh, as theWorst said I guess those set screws aren't long enough to screw onto the stick... You can buy longer set screws at a bolt supply house... Those 4 screws just act like a claw... so as long as they're long enough, you just screw in opposite sides until it makes contact with the stick and tighten them so it grabs on.

Now I get it. Duh. I'm retarded sometimes.

I think Keyan found a link to a korean site that had a DIY, but it's not a drop-in fit IIRC.

I'm sure you are getting your girlfriend to pull on other stuff now instead of taking her anger out on your car. I would be. Hope it works out for you. This is why I bought a manual. Easier to find and install and my wife doesn't drive a stick.
