Seat covers

I MUST cover these hot a!! seats over the summer without covering the side air bags; any suggestions? What have you done?

You could just unplug the airbag wires from underneath the seats. Or pull the fuse for the air bags.

You should do a little research ... considering the number of cars with seat mounted side airbags, there has to be someone who manufactures seat covers with an opening on the side for airbag deployment.

That or you could just buy some and rip out that side seam or cut and hem a hole on the side.

Lucky I have no airbag in the seats... ;)
I don't really understand WTF the purpose of them are anyhow...

There are companies that make them for cars with side air bags, but... Even the best made ones are not reccomended. They will always interfere with the operation of the air bag, and considering that we already have problems with the passenger side bags, I wouldn't reccomend it at all.
