um, im sorry to say, but your 12" rotors are WELL over 5lbs over stock. my 11" rotors were 5-6 lbs over stock EACH, and you have an extra 1"
with your brakes being so big, and big heavy rims (which im pretty sure you didnt run the 17.2 with), im saying you're probably gonna run a 17.5+
and im sure its hot as **** out there
i went out last year, drove an hour to the track, was like 90 degrees, intake/exhaust, no subs, the best i could do was 17.52, worst was 17.9...with my 5 speed...heat will kill your times

Big heavy rims? They weigh less than the OEM steelies I had on there before. I forget the nubmers but the math works out being whatever the rotors added the wheels took away. 3 hours till the tree, we'll see.

right, but even though they may be 3-4lbs lighter, its a 17" wheel, and its moving a lot of that mass away from the center of the wheel, which in turn makes it seem like a heavier wheel.
ive actually been debating selling off my 11" bbk and going back to stock size slotted only rotors and stock calipers and maybe hawk pads...these 11" add enough weight that i think its gonna affect my time..when i pulled the 15.297, it was with stock size rotors.

And while you're at it, strip your interior, and melt off all the tar on the frame. Drive around with no stereo and no a/c and only a c/f drivers seat.
Honestly in your case evan I'd worry about adding horsepower rather than freeing up horsepower. You don't see High performance cars downgrading their braking system to get .1, do you? Show me a STi with 10" Rotors and I'd agree.

I guess the question I should pose is, what is wrong with the stock brake system? If you arent going turbo, it should be efficient shouldnt it.
My guess is that you run a 17.2 or worse.

no, they have adequate brakes and 2 3lb parachutes that deploy after the 1/4 mile is up :D:D
seriously though, reece is right. while the 11" BBK is nice, could i honestly say i "needed" it? no. the opportunity presented itself at a very good price (200$ for everything) and i took it. it was a good visual upgrade that did have a good bit of purpose. would i have been ok had i stuck with 10.1" rotors? sure would.

17.6, 17.3 "spinning through 1st gear" last i heard.
ArunSenior04

I knew it. He had pretty much the exact same mods, plus the heavier rotors and wheels. The only way I could see you spinning alot in first, was if you had bald tires, or was e-braking the car.
Cypher

lol. i think the general consensus is that there was no spinning

Ok just got home.
I made 6 runs.
Ranging from mid-17s to low 17s.
Post slips tomorrow, along with a vid of me spinning the tires power braking for those non-believers

Auto XD can spin tires? My XD spins for a split of a second while holding e-brake and power braking.
Racing in this heat is good only for practice, but not for better times.

Ok, I have to type these cause I don't have a scanner at the moment so bear with me
RUN 1
R/T .654
60' 2.609
330 7.448
1/8 11.420
MPH 62.59
1000 14.767
1/4 17.618
MPH 78.84
This was when I first got onto the track, running A CAI w/ Bypass valve, and KORE Catback, and also a vacuum leak I found before run 2
RUN 2
R/T .625
60' 2.537
330 7.314
1/8 11.247
MPH 63.93
1000 14.577
1/4 17.403
MPH 79.45
Bypass removed with a silicone coupler put in it's place, I fixed the vacuum leak the ghetto way with a screw I had just laying around, and when I was pulling up to the line I accidentally drove through the burnoutbox. Tires spun off the line.
RUN 3
R/T .159
60' 2.516
330 7.274
1/8 11.208
MPH 63.92
1000 14.542
1/4 17.374
MPH 79.23
Left the CAI set up as like run 2 (as with all other passes) and I removed the itty bitty XD2 foglight cover. Tires spun
RUN 4
R/T .198
60' 2.466
330 7.175
1/8 11.087
MPH 63.57
1000 14.406
1/4 17.242
MPH 79.50
Same as run 3 but I cooled down the IM to almost ambient temp. tires spun
RUN 5
R/T .210
60' 2.514
330 7.262
1/8 11.190
MPH 63.24
1000 14.509
1/4 17.340
MPH 79.69
Same as run 4 but shifter was in L. tires spun
RUN 6
R/T .296
60' 2.467
330 7.198
1/8 11.125
MPH 63.26
1000 14.454
1/4 17.292
MPH 79.33
Shifter in D, NO IM cooling (burn to the touch) and Reset ECU. I didn't have time to drive the car around the lot so the ecu could relearn everything so I just staged the car and reset the ecu there. This run was taken not 2 minutes after the ECU got power back. tires spun
And there you have it.

Keyan, how do the hell you spin tires in your auto XD? Little squeek when you floor it doesn't count as spinning tires. Spinning tires is when you loose traction and you have to let go the gas to stop spinning; your speedometer keeps jumping up, yet you're not really gaining any speed. That's what I call spinning tires.
Just hard to believe that auto with 120whp will spin tires.

We have different definitions of spinning tires then.
My definition is getting on the gas and having it go squuueeaaakkk for over 2 seconds. :)
I must have mislead some of you when I said "spinning"
My main reason for mentioning the "long chirp" of the tires is that when I did my stock 17.2 and my WAI+catback 17.2 is that the tires had 100% traction. And here I am running the same time in hot weather and the tires are loosing a bit of traction? and heavier rims and rotors? The engine is definatly making more power. I'm going to Island again next friday, we'll see what happens then with the cooler temps. :)

it is not making any mroe power than before. you'd be damned lucky to break 115whp on a dyno lol

I take alot of offense to that. Why the **** do you think that? The numbers obviously show and all you do is argue your side with no evidence and a "lol"??  please now.
R/T ...-.020
60' ... 2.514
330 ... 7.197
1/8 ... 11.105
MPH .. 64.12
1000... 14.426
1/4 ... 17.250
MPH ... 79.13
That's my quickest time slip with the OEM-WAI(cone on MAF, stock tubing), stock steelies, stock rotors.'
R/T .198
60' 2.466
330 7.175
1/8 11.087
MPH 63.57
1000 14.406
1/4 17.242
MPH 79.50
And that's my quickest with the rims that evan insist take more HP to rotate (which in a way i agree with), rotors that not only are bigger but are a crapload heavier, and a CAI. Go ahead. tell me my car isn't faster now.
Jeez you need to take some arguing lessons :)

I wanna "race" keyan one of these days (we kinda live close enough to meet up at a NYC meet), i've "raced" morgans car that has 16in rims with 205 tread, cai, exhaust and i was pretty much side by side with him with just my light weight 15ins... we both have heavy sound systems (id say mine weighs a bit more though). We are both automatic... and so ya i think i can beat keyan with my pretty much stock car :)

But isnt track traction better than street traction because they put down that stuff?
Looking at your 60' time on your best run, you couldnt have spun that hard if you still managed to pull at 2.4 60' right?
evan938
08-08-2006, 10:49 AM
thats what I was trying to get at. tracks usually lay down a traction compound, wether it be VHT or something else. theres a reason people break axles when they go to the track...power + weak axles + tires that stick like hell = broken axles. hell, i can barely break traction at the track dumping the clutch
ilanpro

wow
thinking back, i think thats what i was trapping out at kilkare a couple years ago...ran at national trails, cai/muffler, ran a 16.658. ran kilkare the next summer, catback, SRI, no subs (had them in at NTR) and best i could do was like 17.5s...it was like 95 degrees out, and i drove 1.5 hours to get there, and got right on the track, so i know that killed me. that track is ****ty though. went back to NTR in may 06 and i was hitting consistent 15.5-15.8, and pulled the 15.297 that night towards the end when it was abotu 40 degrees
