I'm looking for input from anyone who already uses a ScanGauge II in their XD/XD2 http://www.scangauge.com/ This looks like a useful unit.

I was hoping for any photos of where you have it setup in the car... does it fit neatly in the cubby under the Stock Radio/CD player? How about running the cable? The website lists all the possible gauges but states some are not available on all cars... any that don't work on the Elantra?

* Fuel Economy
* Fuel Rate
* Battery Voltage
* Coolant Temperature
* Intake Air Temperature
* Engine Speed (RPM)
* Vehicle speed (MPH)
* Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles)
* Engine Load
* Throttle Position
* Ignition Timing
* Open/Closed Loop

Someone may be arranging a group buy on EC but with import to Canada I'm not sure it'd be such a good deal. Meantime my work takes me down to North Carolina for a week at at time so I may just get one while down there.

Thanks

I have the scangauge I, which has the same features, just in a bigger box.

* Fuel Economy
Yes, its instaneous fuel economy. When you release the throttle while in motion, the MPG's shoot up really high and way low when you accelerate

* Fuel Rate
Yes, measured in GPH (gallons per hour)

* Battery Voltage
Yes

* Coolant Temperature
Yes

* Intake Air Temperature
Yes

* Engine Speed (RPM)
Yes

* Vehicle speed (MPH)
Yes

* Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles)
Not on the 04, probably would on the 01-03's

* Engine Load
Yes

* Throttle Position
Yes

* Ignition Timing
Yes

* Open/Closed Loop
Yes

Need any other help, let me know.
Greg

Many thanks Greg. I understand the ScanGauge II will convert to metric measurement... I grew up in the UK prior to going them going metric in the 1970s so I'm still more comfortable with MPG and MPH, but living in Canada I have to go with the flow :rolleyes:

I have an '05 so I wonder why you think the manifold pressure will not show... something to do with the change from MAP to MAF?

MAP= manifold absolute pressure
MAF= mass air flow sensor

MAP= manifold absolute pressure
MAF= mass air flow sensor well I guess that makes sense then :cool:

I have one that I just recently purchased. I personally rather like it. Yes, it dsoes fit nicely in the cubbyhole under the cd player, in fact, it fits just well enough that if you push it back in far enough, it seems to hold itself in well enough yet allow for adjustments in the event of sunlight or anything else. I have my cord run out through the coin cup on the left and across the dash, but I plan on drilling a hole behind the cubbyhole and making it a cleaner, nicer install.

04+ does not measure MAP. It seems to do okay on the rest, though the only mpg figure worth looking at is the overall average in the trip section.

Yeah, its a pretty useful little tool, it just takes some getting used to the menu navigation.

Anyone have or can get any pics of this thing installed?

I want to see how clean it looks under the Hu, im super interested in one myself. Anything that can tell me gas milage on the fly is going to save me $ in the long run.

Also i want to see how yinz are securing them, i was thinking about a simple bracket, some makeshift plastic or simple crafted out of wood.. not sure yet, lookin for ideas :)

I'll try to take some pics once i figure out where I put my usb transfer cable...moving can really suck sometimes.

just a slight note, the mpg in the main display is wildly misleading as its constantly changing based on throttle position, amount of fuel injectors are throwing and rpms, if you want a dynamic mpg figure you'll have to go into the trip gauge and watch it there.

Securing the unit is easy...just pull off your dash fascia, drill a hole for the cable, run it, reinstall youir dash, press the unit into the hole and it will wedge itself nicely in there.

Hopefully that helps!

I just got around to ripping my dash apart today. I took out the tray under the stereo and drilled a hole in the back and threaded the cable through there. the gauge itself can be pressed into place and it will hold itself there.

Here's the pic I took when I got done, Sorry if its turned 90* from how it should be.
