says private label which usually means those springs are probably made by a well know company and repackaged under an "off brand" name. So guessing at the proposed drop, my guess would be intrax or b&g springs. Still a damn good price at $75.

well, i bid on them at the minimum.. $50 + 25 shipping and I won the auction..

I just paid $75 for everything...

Now We will see how these springs feel vs the stock (modified) springs. ! :)

I dunno the rear springs on that set look like they may be a bit soft...my Apex have a lot more coils on the bottom...but looks can be deceiving.

I watched them on ebay almost all day yesterday, and I was gonna get them, but I never heard of them, and didn't remember seeing on here or the GT site that anyone had them, so I was hesitant to spend the money for them and have them turn out to be POS's. I guess Ford ended up with them.

Glad I didn't buy them :eek2:

I dont think the sound is coming from the springs.

springs dont make noise unless you installed them improperly... i've installed dozens of lowering spring kits on all kinds of cars...

they are installed properly...

I think there might be an issue with the struts maybe... but i dont know for sure..

for example... when going straight on the road or highway... the alignment is fine and the feel is smooth and tight... on truns its even tighter and smoother than stock with minimal sway.. and i still have the stock springs on the back..

now, say i go over a bump on the road or a small pot-hole... the sound that the suspension makes is noticably louder than stock...

thats all i have to complain about.

GTSpeedRacer

Even with stock springs and shocks I hear a 'clunk' over pot holes and such. I just assumed it was a Hyundai thing. :(

maybe so, but the clunk is more noticable now than ever before...

and yes, it makes the same clunk sound in the back as in the front and the back still has the stock springs !

I'm willing to guess this is the same problem Carbonman had when he first installed his B&Gs. It was a Strut bearing or something like that. Could be the same thing with you ford, since the strut will be going through a larger range of it's motion due to the car being lower. That's my guess.

NorthernYankee
08-05-2004, 09:57 AM
It could be an issue with the suspension being off because the rear is so much higher than the front.

http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/close-up-front-lowered-only.jpg

I have that black 3m strip over the wheel wells so it makes it looks like there is a bigger gap...

but you can still see that its lower in front than in back.

OK, I installed the rear springs this afternoon..

everthing went nice and smooth..

there is one problem with the springs... they will not sit inside of the lower spring perch like the stock springs...

here is a shot: (sorry about the blurryness, f_cking fogged up camera due to the crappy weather down here.. )

http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/P1010246_crap.JPG

luckily, if you position it properly.. ie.. insert the end of each coil into the groove on the lower perch, it will sit firmly and you should be fine after that... :)

i'll take some pics of it in the daytime tomorrow and hopefully you all will like the ride height improvement...

also, these springs appear to keep the back end up enough that i will not have to install any spring spacers to make the back even with the front...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Kinda looks like you have them upside down...do you have the wider part in the lower mount and the narrow part at the top? You prolly do but I figured I would ask.

--NY

good theory.. BUT NO.

what you see in the picture IS THE WIDER part of the spring... the top section is almost 1 1/2 inches narrower than what is pictured (lower section).. and i installed them in the same fasion as the stockers... wide section on bottom, narrow section on top.. also, the top spring perch is really narrow, you would never be able to seat the wrong end upside down because the top perch is just much much smaller than the bottom perch...

either way, they ride and handle great vs stock springs...

and now... onto the pictures:

http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/P1010249-lowered.JPG

and one more:

http://www.nitrousworld.com/pictures/P1010253-lowered.JPG

Now i REALLY cant wait to get the tiburon brake kit... i feel like the stock brakes suck so bad......

This mornin i went to work and took the same route, a 2 lane wide.. full 1/8th mile u-turn off-ramp.. before installing the springs, i could do about 55 mph on it and thats it... anything more and i could feel the tires slipping and the sway was just unreal...

today i hit that turn going 60 mph and felt little or no sway and the tires still felt like they were holding... AND THE ROAD WAS WET ! :)

i cant wait to try it out on a dry day ! :)

hahahaha sweet. <<<< These springs ROCK.

I dont know if i should bother but the car feels like its alignment is perfect.

most likely, i'll be wasting my time and money to have an alignment done...

what do you all think ?

I also dont feel very comfortable with those obx camber adjustment bolts... I might just swap the stock bolts back in to be on the safer side...

I would also like to point out that the camber of the rear wheels remained basically un-changed after installing the springs...

I might as well swap the stock bolts back onto the front knuckles to see if there is any big difference and just stick with it like that :)

it rides like a dream..

but if i go over any kind of jagged bumps on the road, there are some loud clacking sounds that come from both the front and rear suspension...

i mentioned this earlier on this thread, but the rear sounds were present even before installing the rear springs...

also, after installing the springs, i double checked all of the sway bar mounts and re-tightened them just in case... sure enough, thats not the problem, it still makes the same sounds front and back...

now, over smooth roads and on the highway, its like a dream come true !

FIXED ! - CLACKING IS GONE !!!

There clanking??...What do you expect for the price you paid?

ok, took the wheels off again this afternoon..

i discovered the source of the claking...

apparently i disregarded the notch in the washer that goes between the upper strut mount and the upper spring perch... it has a notch in it that lets the upper part of the strut shaft slide into it 1/2 an inch or so...

so what i did was to put a 2nd jack under the control arm and compress the entire strut assembly upward as much as possible, then i went at the strut bolt with my impact wrench... finally got the bolt all the way down by force :)

stupid washers and stupid notches...

all fixed now. :)

as for where the noise from the back comes from.... there is no washer on the back but there is a notch, there is no way to install the rear spring perch backwards because it is integrated to the strut mount and therefore you cant slide the strut shaft into the perch without first aligning the shaft...

the front strut on the other hand allows for you to install it improperly if you overlook the washer...

so... on to the road test...

it is apparent that the spring itself cant make any sounds or noises such as the clacking that i heard, but an improper installation can definately make it clack considering that i had about 1/4 inch of slack on the strut shaft and every time i hit a bump it will move and slam the shaft onto the top of the strut mount ! LOL

:D i guess we all learn from our mistakes, lucky for me, i didnt break anything. !!

I also removed the camber adjustment kit and re-installed the stock strut bolts.

from what i can tell there is really no noticable difference in the camber setting... perhaps after the test drive i can give more accurate results as to how it rides and to find out if the noise is finally gone.

:) wish me luck ! :abovelol:

well, i drove around all morning, now that i dont hear the front clack anymore, i could isolate the rear sound...

the rear sound is more of a thud, and it sounds the same as the stock sound used to ..

so i guess its normal...

like i said before, the back is installed perfectly with no issues whatsoever...

it just makes the original thud that it always did... even before installing the srpings...

>>>> UPDATE:

I think i'll be getting an alignment today.. I know the car feels like its going perfectly straight, but I dont want to risk wearing out my tires because of excessive toe-in...

:)

more updates >>> .

I had the alignment done during lunch... the mechanic said that the toe-in was waaaay off in the back... he set all 4 corners back to stock toe-in settings..

:) happy me !

XDGT03
08-10-2004, 08:10 PM
Yes, the front camber bolts will make it way toe in. The rears should be fine at 1/16 toe in. the fronts should be factory spec'd to 0 toe. I put the same obx camber bolts in and had the alignment. The rear was perfect but the fronts were WAY off. I had them set to factory 0 toe and adjust them to slight toe out for autocross and them set them back to 0 after the race. I have -2 camber in front and -1 in rear.

If after your alignment you didn't need them for proper camber setting, and you don't autocross then somebody here could probably use them.

Will a 1.7" drop require an aftermarket kit to adjust the camber back to factory settings?
