Ok, true story from yesterday. My neighbor drives a 2001 Mercedes C320. She got it about 4 months ago. For the past month the CEL has been coming on and off, so like most uneducated drivers - she assumed there was something wrong with the CEL light. If you've never seen the information display on a Mercedes, it has a little screen that will tell you information about the car. So, yesterday she was driving, and "under voltage" came on the display along with the CEL. She assumed the "under voltage" warning appeared because she drove under power lines - get it... she was driving "Under" "voltage"... lol.
In reality she was driving around on a bad alternator that finally gave up yesterday and cost $550 to replace (gotta love Mercedes repairs). My friend and I tried so hard not to laugh at her, but as soon as she walked away we were rolling on the ground... under voltage, haha.

oh i can match that... I was once driving with this girl on the tollway, and as we were approaching the toll, she started to change lanes toward the automatic toll lanes even though they were backed up. i told her to just go to the manual lane, pay the guy the 40 cents and go through, instead of waiting in the traffic. She says, and i quote "but i cant go through that lane, my car is an automatic, not a manual.." I had to laugh in her face right then and there...

I cant remember who exactly said this, but i remember it was a female...either some girl i was dating or a friends significant other.
i swear she said "what does the 'service engine soon' light mean?"
oh....yeah...my friends g/f...i remember we were driving and i told him his service engine soon light was on, and she said "what does service engine soon mean?"
lol...good one.
and i still like nicks (projectx515) ex g/f blowing her motor due to no oil, even though the oil light had been on

I once serviced a car and there was nealy no oil left in the engine, I ask the owner (a girl) and said she always wait for the "oil change light" to come on before changing the oil ... lollll she was really thought that it was the "oil change" light!!!
she must have killed all her cars!

this is the funniest thread I've read in awhile... thanks for the good laugh fellas hahahaha
I read something a guy wrote once, he`s started to do some routine work on his car and bouyed by success, offered to help his friend change the water pump on the friends car as a mechanic told him it was faulty, they hacked away at it for a few hours, had everything undone but it wouldnt budge. They went and consulted a real mechanic, and after listening to their plight and asking a few questions, the mechanic acertained they were trying to remove the WIPER MOTOR!!!!!.. I could write a book about automotive n00bery, including my own mis understandings when I was a kid.
