hehe. . .i'll be buying both the PS3 and the Wii. I already have the money set aside.

The main reason why I actually want the PS3 is for Blu-Ray and its ability to output in 1080p. We have a 1080p 62" DLP tv set right now and it sucks that Hi-Def tv from the rabbit ears looks better than DVD.

The Wii looks fun, but I really don't use a videogame system solely just to play videogames anymore.

With the PS3, I know there will be at least a few titles that I'll find really interesting, maybe some new Karaoke Revolution game, Guitar Hero, or maybe something more mature like GTA. I would have a tougher time convincing my friends to play Mario Party or Super Smash Bros because as fun as it may be, it would be pretty gay or geeky for any adult age male to play those games with other adults. I find those games fun with my younger cousins, but unless there were some kids around, I don't see myself playing those type of games with my buddies.

Me too. After having owned 10 game systems (currently gamecube) I won't pay more than $20 for a game, and I only buy new.
But I really want to play Xbox 360’s Dead Rising. :(

exactly, i hate to say it, but its gonna be another N64 (granted since it will be relatively inexpensive for a new system, i may reserve one)

N64 was a pretty big success imo.. after the 64 though it went downhill for the home consoles. Gamecube is a so-so

IMO, the N64 was the start of Nintendo's decline in the home console market. Up until that point, they always outsold everyone else in home consoles. The original Sony Playstation was a newcomer and it sold way more units than the N64 ever did. Had Sony had the PlayStation branding power to start with when they were competing at the time with the N64, the N64 would have probably went down as Nintendo's 2nd biggest failure, second only to the Nintendo Virtual Boy.

Id say the GC is prolly their second biggest "failure" in terms of sales. It only sold about 12million units, versus the N64's 40+ million. Its kinda hard to define failure nowadays. Is it profit making, or market share. While Nintendo may not have the largest market share, they made profit on every system sold, unlike the Xbox, which lost $4 billion due to the high prod cost (est @ $500-600 at release.)

Granted they have billions to waste on trying to capture the market, but if they werent Microsoft, Im sure they would be gone by now. I dont think most companies would stay in the market, if they lost $4billion, and have yet to make a profit.

Don't worry about being "cool" in front of your friends and there shouldn't be a problem. If you'll play the games with your cousins and have fun doing it there is no reason to not play with your friends and have fun doing it. If anything it would be more fun with friends because you can talk **** while you do it, ha.

Good call Reece.

I'm what they call a Nintendo "fanboy" and that's ok with me. As long as they keep making good games for Nintendo systems that'll be ok with me. I think I've said this before, I'll own an xbox 360, but not until it's a lot cheaper and Halo 3 is out. I wish I had the money, and perhaps more importantly the time, I would have all three systems like when I was younger. Ahh, the good old days.

Yea, Nintendo fills apart of the market that neither Sony or Microsoft can fill. The greatest coverage, for the best games, is any console + Nintendo. This is because Sony and Microsoft share the same games now. The only big franchise Sony still holds exclusive on, is GT. Grand Theft Auto, and FF are now on the Xbox as well. Microsoft holds Halo as exclusive, which IMO, is greater than GT4.

The same cant be said for Nintendo franchises.

And you shouldnt need to prove your maturity through games you play. How mature would that be?

I don't know about your friends, but if I had all my guy buddies over and we had the choice of Madden vs Mario Party, the majority will pick Madden.

I like Koolaid too, but if it's party full of adults, it would just be plain wierd to serve my guests punch and Koolaid, have no beer or alcohol whatsoever, and play games like pin the tail on the donkey. At some point, you are an adult and expected to behave and be mature like one. Nintendo also needs to get with the program and make games not only for kids, but also for the adults, especially when those adults are the ones they've been marketing to for the past 20 years since they were little kids. By sticking with kiddie games, all that marketing and namebranding over the years was just a waste of money if they abandon the people they originally were selling to. The few Nintendo "fanboys" out there won't be big enough to support them in the long run.

Nintendo needs to take some power away from Miyamoto because he has way too much say. They can't let one man dictate what Nintendo can/can't do. Miyamoto is great and sometimes can be a genius, but at the same time he's very narrow minded. Sometimes if you want to stay in the game you have to change with the times. Those 5 year old Nintendo fanboys playing SMB back in '85 are now 25 and Nintendo has to realize that and use their brand power to entice these original customers back.

You make good points. I like Madden too, and Madden for the Wii is supposed to be pretty interesting. We'll see.

Cost of PS3 - FTL. Wii will be my decision this time around. My history of video game sytems has gone:

Nintendo -> Super Nintendo -> PS1/CPU gaming -> PS2/CPU gaming-> Wii (Probably)

I preordered a PS3, but only because I'm turning it around and selling it on ebay right when I get it. My cousin did that with the 360 and made about 6 grand. People will do anything to get it fast..even pay outrageous prices.

on topic, I'll stick with ps3

For me the decision is as easy as:

$399 PS3 ($499 w/ 20GB Hard Drive/ $599 w/ 60GB Hard Drive) vs. $249 Wii.

BTW, EB Games started taking pre-orders for PS3 today, with a $100 deposit.
