Just as my dad is getting serious about picking up a 2006 Santa Fe at the way-cheap clearance prices they are going for, another Hyundai has left the family. My uncle traded in his 2004 Sonata V6. He replaced it with a 2007 Mustang (V6, Pony Package). I was standing in my garage last night, and he pulled up in front of my house. It's blue with black leather interior and the white "Mustang" stripes on the lower rocker panels. I have to admit, although it's nice - I was a little sad. It is the V6, but he probably got the best options on the non-GT version:
the Pony Package, which is available on V6 coupe and convertible, comes standard with a new 1965 Mustang GT-inspired grille which features a traditional corral surrounding the pony and horizontal bars which lead to small chrome-trimmed grille-mounted foglamps. The Pony is the first six-cylinder Mustang in the 40+ year history of the car to come standard with 17" wheels--the same "Bullitt" wheels that were standard on the 2005 Mustang GT. The wheels, outfitted with a unique tri-bar Pony center cap, are wrapped in P235/55ZR 17-inch tires. The Pony has a new thin-thick-thin rocker panel tape stripe with "MUSTANG" lettering on the door and comes standard with a rear spoiler and GT-inspired suspension modifications featuring a larger front stabilizer bar, the addition of a rear stabilizer bar, 4-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS) and traction control.
I took it for a quick drive. For one, like most sports cars, it's hard to see out of. Reminded me of my Camaro. The V6 easily moves the car, but is missing the true "too much power feeling" that you're going to break the wheels loose without meaning to. They have done a good job with the exhaust, giving it a deep throaty sound with the 3.8L V6... nothing like a V8, but it sounds good.
He said he loved the Sonata, but it needed tires, and was coming up to be due for timing belt, etc. so now was the best time for him to get out of it. Previously he had a Firebird, and said he missed having an impractical, fun car. I don't blame him, just sad to see a Hyundai go :(
