Just wondering if anyone knows how to change the wiper motor on a 2002 GT? any assistance would greatly be appreciated! thanks!

I've done it to two. Not hard at all. You have to remove the black plastic pieces under the wipers then you can remove the motor.
If it's sticking, then more likely it's the wiper transmission, not the motor. The passenger side is the one that siezes up
BTW, welcome, don't forget to check into the Canadian section and add your where abouts.

Thanks JacksonJ! this will be my job for tomorrow, hopefully it's a nice day to 'play' with the car.
It was fun driving 120kms yesterday without wipers! thank god for RainX.

Although I haven't had to do it on my Elantra, in the past I've been able to resurect seized wiper bearings/bushings by working a good oil-based lube into them. Once the corrosion is broken, they should work well for quite a while, though they may not be as smooth as new parts.
I'm not sure if the Elantra uses the same type of system that the Excel did, but the latter had plastic sockets on the ends of the links that could break. The symptom of this was that the wipers typcially wouldn't park properly or clear the entire windshield, but would sometimes overshoot and hit the A pillar at highway speeds.

btw, used Wiper transmissions will cost you ~$60 from junkyards. Depending on which one you goto.
I did mine about 2 years ago with a used one and haven't had issues with it. I also helped another member last summer with his, he came out to my work and it took us 1.5 hrs. Then his battery died but didn't display the normal effects of a dead battery.

well, I finally found an Elantra at a local scrap yard...took out the whole motor and transmission and only paid $50 for the lot! the hyundai dealership wanted $179 for the transmission and $200 for the motor! crazy...
I put it in and works great! plus my old motor still functions fine, it's just the trans that's wrecked.

Keep the old motor. Use it as a spare if the replacement does fail on you.

wtg, glad to hear you got it working. For some weird reason it's always the transmission that goes. From what I seen, it's actually the passenger side that gets seized up.

Is this common among Canadian (or northern) Elantras? Everyone who commented here is located pretty far north. Just curious. Glad to hear you got the problem fixed.

possibly...maybe due to the corrosion from the winters (salt etc.)
