Magnaflow mufflers are great. Sound and flow are awesome. But I'm older and want some peace and quite now.
My car is lowered with H&R's and I bottom out from time to time leaving parking lots, and on various obstacles in the lovely NYC roads (where the frick does all that toll money go??? I'm pretty sure it does not go to fixing the friggen potholes...).

Anyone know the best way to deal with this type of rust? It seems to be minor and the muffler is still very solid. The rust (upon close inspection) appears to be mostly from the surface scratches.

Sand then paint I'm guessing?

I don't know if painting will help since the muffler usually gets extremely hot. Would have to try to use high-temp paint and see what happens.

Yup, that's what I was thinking. Would header paint work?

yeah, header paint would work. since its stainless, you wont ever get much more than a little surface rust.

That happend to my magnaflow muffler on my old car....best way to get rid of it is a wire brush since it is around the ends of the muffler and im sure it wouldnt look bad if you did that...it didnt on mine

Wire brush on the rust definitely...

Why not Powder Coat the muffler black, or even use Rhine Lining product (bed liner). It would all do the same thing.
