Is there really that much of a difference between dealership parts prices and online prices? I just called my dealership looking for a water pump for my '01 GLS. He quoted me $116.08 (MORE than MSRP) and $8.32 for the gasket. Hyundaipartsonline wants $75.45 for the pump and $3.55 for the gasket. Is this normal for every dealership? I am looking to get a set of belts, brake pads, and a few other items. Looks like online is the only way to fly.

Wow, they're overcharging you. I think I paid ~$70 after a 10% discount for working across the street.

All of the local dealerships here charge extremely exorbitant prices for all their parts and it's just not right. It's nice having four dealerships in the Portland metro area here, but they don't seem to compete on any of their pricing. They are all very high. The only reason I like to get parts from the dealership is when I can't wait because you can walk in, inspect the part to make sure it's the proper part, pay for it, and walk out with the part. Online ordering saves a lot of money but wastes a lot of time ... even if you get the correct part the first time.

I have one dealer I go to for warranty work; they are cooperative, friendly and convenient to work. I don't buy anything from them, though, because they charge more than list for everything.

I go to another dealer, slightly further away, to buy parts. They charge a little less than list price. The first dealer charges $8.xx for a filter and also charges for the little gasket; the other dealer charges $6.00 and throughs in the gasket for free.

Bottom line: Not all dealers are the same. And some dealers have better service while others have lower prices. You have to check around and see who best suits your needs.
