rubber floor mats have a STRONG odour

I purchased 4 rubber floor mats for winter use from the Hyundai dealer for $59 CAN.??????? For this I got 4 very smelly (rubber odour) floor mats. I have been airing them out for 1 week now,even putting them outside but it's had no efffect so far. I think it might take 6-12 months for this smell to go away.Untill it does I can't even use them in the car.Right at this moment they are in the backyard and I plan on leaving them there the whole night.Till now I have been bringing them inside at night time.
My advice is BUYER BEWARE !

My Santa Fe floor mats from Hyundai were the same way. My winter mats in the Elantra from walmart were also like that. I think it's just the nature of the materials to retain odor for a while.

Try hosing them down.

That's quite typical of new rubber and plastic products ... just like new car smell, it will eventually fade.

wut does one expect rubber to smell like??? i bought the plastic ones, and ILL BE DAMNED , but them ****ers smelled like PLASTIC! BUYER BEWARE... u never know now-a-days, rubber smells like rubber and plastic smells like plastic.... this thread gave me quite a laugh....

that is rediculous..

when i was like 19 i had a HUGE party and my parents were comin home the next day so i stuffed like 3 hige *** bags of garbage and like 3 bags of nothing but cans and empty bottles into my trunk and dumped it off into garbage cans at my local park

oh man did my trunk stank!! i had to wash that out real quick, it was seepin into the car!

As for the rubber mats.. yeah i bought a set of grey and didnt like the look, never had a smell though - i just upgraded to black (the ones that hold a gallon of water) and once again no smell really.. i think they sat on a shelf at the store long enough to air out though

I have one of those sets that hold like a gallon of water. I love it! Winter sucks, and those floormats are a NEED.

oh man ive only had them in for like 3 weeks and they are already NASTY.. and im thinkin damn i had a light colored matt under that.. that thing would be trashed already! cuz i just had alota rain in my area so there was a ton of mud/dirt/wet in the past weeks gettin all on those mats. Im so glad i have them hehe
