Has anyone thought of/actually removed the arm rest in the middle or cut it down so that the car mirrors many sports cars that have short shifters? To clarify further, I see many cars like BMW's that are manual that don't have a high arm rest in the middle of the front seats and have a short shifter. I think it be easier to shift without it in the way, but if the shifter is stock, it's pretty much aligned with your arm rested and hand on the shifter.

Any thoughts, ideas, etc.?

I find it much nicer to have the armrest there w/ my TWM STS than not...most of the time im driving, im not changing gears, and i like to have somewhere to rest my arm

I just like to rest my arm there. I have an autotragic so there isn't much movement of my right arm lol. I hate cars w/o the center arm rest...

Some XDs in foreign countries don't have the arm rest at all. There is a replacement console you could possibly get from an overseas seller that would delete the arm rest part of the console.

I like the arm rest though.

I was just curious if anyone made any mod like this.. make it "sportier."

I wouldn't mind a smaller armrest.. but I don't know if I'd want it just empty there.

I was really thinking about this 'mod' when I saw a guy across the street at our other office driving a red BMW 328i convertable in 5 speed and it had a shortshifter and no significant arm rest in the centre of the two front seats. Man do I want some nice racing seats in my car... too bad it'll cost an arm and a leg.

Would it be possible to remove just the bottom lid? If you can cut that out and reattach the top lid, you'd lose the small storage space on top but you'd make it 1" shorter.

Yeah I was thinking that myself, but I'm not much into fabrication... especially in the interior materials.

Well if it cost you an arm and a leg you wouldn't need the arm rest =D

They have the armrest-less console in some of the original Canadian XDs. Craigs car is like that. Lots of open room. I remember AUTOBOT trying to locate the piece to replace the regular US one but I don't think he ever successfully did it.
