Sorry to bug everyone, but I am trying to install my SRI. I have detached the coupler from the old system and am trying to remove the bottom of the air box. HOW THE **** DO YOU GET THOSE SCREWS TO LOOSEN? I can't seem to get them unscrewed. And the DYI for the CAI is crap.. once I finish this I will have pics for every step to help others.

THANKS in advance.

They should just unbolt, unless they're rusted on tight... you could try to spray it down with some penetrating spray... Or impact wrench the suckaz!

canadian tire -> JIG-A-LOO

:) should fix it :)

OK well I finally got them off. Bastards. I have the coupler on and I have the metal tie screwed on tight.. I'm putting on the pipe, but COSMO Racing sent these silver brackets that are confusing me. I have no idea where they are to go. Any suggestions?

They also only sent me 2 of the metal screw on fastens. In their picture they show 3. I guess I should jet to CND Tire and get one. D-bags.

my suggestion is to punch COSMOracing in the BALLS for sending you such a complicated SRI!!!! lol nah jk...the silver brakcets should bold up to already existing mounting spots...not that i have done this before but it seems logical and it would make sense if everything jus bolted up to existing holes, but we all know that never happens! nothing ever jus "BOLTS RIGHT UP" lol

Post some quick pics of what you have so we can suggest some ideas on making it easier for you.

Posting now, one sec.

So #1, they didn't send me enough fastens.. I had to go out and more more.

#2 The rubber piece from the engine casing won't stretch to fit over the little nipple piece on the pipe

#3 Those brackets.. I can't see where it gets fastened to...

I don't think you need those brackets.

fifthgear
09-26-2006, 09:53 PM
What about the rubber nipple?

billydog
09-26-2006, 09:56 PM
For that nipple on the sri , i hooked up the hose that was hooked up to stock intake. Is that what you are talking about?

Oh just read your post again, hmm won't fit... Could try getting the metal part wet and see if you can slide it on.

fifthgear
09-26-2006, 09:57 PM
It slides on.. but it's a serious stretch..

billydog
09-26-2006, 09:59 PM
I don't think it's a problem. But of course i don't know what i am talking about :) hopefully someone can chime in and see if that hose not being hooked up is a problem.

KeWLKaT

just stretch it over.

and play around with the brackets, it looks like the more solid one goes over the clamp that clamps the filter on...

fifthgear
09-26-2006, 11:06 PM
Yeah well I tried to get the bracket but saw NOTHING it could clamp to... I had a friend look too and he had no idea. It's installed... minus the brack.. and I took it for a test on the highway. I have many pictures and will create a DYI for all the hassle. Any input is still welcomed (especially regarding the brack). I will be writing COSMO about missing parts!

missing parts?

I had a bracket with mine, but I couldn't figure it out. Mine lasted 1 year before the cone ripped of the rubber. I guess it was rubbing on my hood and when I put the throttle on, it caused it to start to tear.

I replaced it back with the stock duct and my K&N filter. As I pulled off the cone, it just fell into my hands. I would suggest finding out how to attach that so it doesn't move and do what mine did.

fifthgear
09-26-2006, 11:21 PM
No I did not reset the ECU. And rob, they didn't send me 3 fasten pieces for the piping.

KeWLKaT

RESET THE ECU or else its useless

fifthgear
09-26-2006, 11:34 PM
HOW DO I DO THAT? :P And how do I get that bracket on. DAMMIT :P

KeWLKaT

disconnect the negative terminal of your bat, apply brakes for 30 seconds, put terminal back on, check to see if reset was successful (clock should be reset) and procede to drive it like you stole it

fifthgear
09-26-2006, 11:43 PM
Oh... that's it?

Car is to be turned completely off.. just brake for 30 seconds while it's disconnected?

Won't mess anything else up? LOL

KeWLKaT
09-26-2006, 11:45 PM
obviously ur car will be off if the neg. terminal is disconnected!

fifthgear

That's what I figured, but right now I am so exhausted. While I was modding the car I was also running inside cooking for my family... it's been a ***** of an evening.

If you want pictures I can upload... I took photo's of everything. What would you like to see? I posted an image of the brackets I can't seem to place. What else? Seriously... A DYI will be on it's way as well.

what didn't you like about the current DIY? It was the first thing I ever did on my own with a car and I found it was pretty darn helpful.

Doesn't matter, if you've got a better one made up from this then great. Although it would be good to get a SRI DIY up there as well anyway, it never hurts.

glad to hear that you got it done though.

nice write up on that DIY... i laughed when i got to the end..."and like kewlkat said, drive it like u stole it" lmao...and i bet you did too! hows it sound? is it extremely loud?

fifthgear

Nah it's not too loud actually... but once you get around 2-2.5k rpm... she growls like a satisfied cat.

remind me not to order from cosmo.

fifthgear
09-27-2006, 10:41 AM
Yeah I let them know they didn't send me all the components required or advertised. I am hoping to hear from them soon. I still don't know where those brackets go

Resetting the ECU won't run me into any problems down the line will it?

robs02elantra
09-27-2006, 10:53 AM
nope. I've never experienced problems from it.

fifthgear
09-27-2006, 11:07 AM
Cool, thanks. I guess I'll give it a try at lunch today then :)

Anyone able to see where I could actually put those brackets? (Refer to pics in the DIY thread) or here.

mtlelantra
09-27-2006, 11:52 AM
Somehow you need to make it reach to an existing bolt, perhaps the closest engine cover bolt, or a strut mount bolt. You don't want it just hanging there. If you can't make the brackets that came with it fit, you'll have to make a trip to the 'Tire or Home Depot and get longer brackets. As with most "no-name" intakes, they're a generic fit with generic brackets. You have to do all the MacGyver-ing to get a 100% fit.

fifthgear
09-27-2006, 12:47 PM
Well where do I attach the bracket to on the intake?

How exactly is this helping out at all? I understand what you are saying KeWLKaT about going around the filter rubber part, but this is the pic from COSMO:

for my intake, I bent a 1/2 section of the bracket and used a hose clamp to clamp the bracket to the intake pipe. But I'm running a "long" ram intake behind the headlamp beside the battery and could attach the bracket to the same bolt the fusebox uses.

fifthgear

The whole idea of the bracket is to keep the intake from vibrating and causing any problems or coming apart.

Fifthgear, in your picture, the bracket part on on the left you use the hook to attach to your clamp that you put on to hold the cone to the intake pipe, The other one attaches to that and then somewhere. I wish I could tell you where, but I couldn't find it myself. I had my SRI cone rip off because it wasn't held down. I couldn't find pictures or anything, but you have a 2 piece bracket, mine was just a solid piece and too thick to bend if need be.

2nd last reply I have a pic there... You can see where the lower bolt is to support the fusebox, there is a bracket there that spans to hold up the intake tube. But again, I have a different intake setup.

From the cosmo racing pic you posted, if you mount one bracket like the picture to the engine cover bolt, you need to bend/twist/clamp another bracket to the intake, and then connect the two brackets together. You'll probably also need to cut out a slot in your engine cover to accomodate the bracket.

I hear what you are saying, but that's a complicated and seemingly "retarded" way of doing it. Why destroy my engine cover for the stupid SRI... there should be a way around it.

The problem is that there's no solid mounting spot close by the SRI except for that engine cover bolt. That's why I went the way I did with the LRI.
If you buy a long enough piece of aluminum for a bracket, you could reach one of the strut mounts or the bolt on the strut tower for the DRL (daytime running light) module (that grey box)... or run it underneath to one of the bolt holes for the stock airbox.

Yeah I was thinking of creating an arm to the fuse box area or going underneath where the old box was mounted. Bahhhhh gay Cosmo Racing lol.
