I really don't know what I like better...I'm very glad that you did this though, because I've got parts where it's starting to peel, and you have almost exactly the same car as me (everything except the autotragic and the sunroof), so now I know exactly what it will look like if I choose to do it.

yeah, I've always wanted a sunroof. Maybe later...maybe not.
Is the white paint shiny like the rest of the car?

yessir! looks exactly the same.. i was suprised that there was actually clear coat left lol... the "window tape" is extremely hard to rip off... it sucked so bad! lol but it turned out nicely...im not saying it will be the same for urs, maybe i got lucky, i have no idea, but yea its shiny like the rest...

lovely. I'll have to give that a go sometime. I think that the only thing I don't like is how the weatherstrip at the bottom of the window looks.

but once i get my windows tinted.. its all gonnd kinda blend in... and the weather strippings wont be that noticeable..i actually like it, its not DULL like the window tape was.. and btw what is the actual name for that window tape ****?? lol

This has been done many times before. Some have removed the tape and the paint was in great shape, others have found scratches in the paint under the tape. If you don't like the white, I suggest painting the area black instead of going back to the tape. I like the look of the paint over the tape on white cars.
PS. I can't remember if there are pics on this EXD site, but on the old EXD site (archive) there are, just need to do a search.

I looks pretty good on a white car but I'm not really convinced I'd like it on my silver xd. I might photoshop it to see. Wasn't there a TSB dealing with the replacement of the tape due to peeling though? I'm pretty sure there is.

I didn't think that there was a tsb about it....I wouldn't mind if I was wrong though
are you going to do the back as well?

I don't know which looks better, but I kinda like the look. Pictures can be good, but I wish I could see an example of it in real life. It's kinda makes the door trim look "less cheap" than it does with the black tape.

There is definately a TSB about the tape.

There is definately a TSB about the tape.
Yep. I could never decide on what to do with mine but I just had them replace it under warranty. I'm happy I did.
And oh yeah, there is probably a dozen people at least who've done this before.

It falls under the bumper to bumper warranty.

Right. If mine comes off again like other peoples have then I'd probably think more about removing it totally. I don't know, still can't decide which I like more.
Did you take the back off yet?

no im doing it tomorrow... you need a lot of GOO-GONE....

Goo-Gone can get expensive if you have to use a lot of it. Try some BBQ lighter fluid. It does the same thing and is cheap! You probably have some laying around somewhere already. It's great for adhesive removal. Just make sure you light your pipe away from the car! And by the way, I like the look with the black tape removed as equally as I like the trim with the tape in place. Either one looks good.

Yeah it's under warranty but I went back to the dealership 3 times for that. Just might as well peel it off or try to ignore it.....lol. I still don't know what to do, I am nervous on the outcome so I think I will let it be for right now.
Great job on your car BigRob!!

Mine's peeling for the second time around now... probably next time I have a real issue I'll have fix it before my warrenty is up. My car is midnight grey so It might look wierd since there is no big contrast between the balck and paint. They don't do it in house so and it took 2 days to get it done so I had a free loaner :D and XG350 at the time but maybe this time I'll get an Azera !!

How hard is it to pull off? If you use lighter fluid to get rid of the adhesive, do you just rinse it off afterward? Is it better to let it heat up before pulling?

i need to do this aswell, thanks for ther thread revival.
i think i have the worse problem here, which is a LOT of RUST under the tape.

i was actually surprised how nice the paint was under my tape... good luck to anyone who does it, and i used a heat gun to heat up the "tape" then started peeling from the corners. it comes off fairly easy after its heated up.
