I figured that the entry level would be good for now and then in the spring or maybe sooner, get a different intercooler set-up and go from there.I am leary about tapping the oil pan but that may be the only part i will not like to do.Hope to be boosted by the mid part of dec maybe sooner

true, true....i went down that road with my kit.

good luck with the install.

The oil pan isnt a hard swap/install....just tedious....especially on a makeshift driveway garage lol. Way easier on a lift, along with about ten billion other different types of installs :)

How much is the Pre-tapped Oil pan? and A nice thing about the entry level kit is you can upgrade to the new intercoolers Alpine has because now they make one that works with the entry level kit!

We have 99% of all the parts in stock. The only thing we're waiting on is the Downpipe which will be done in a day or two. You WILL have your kit shipped in at most 10 days, I promise. I actually already have your turbo mounted on the manifold and the heat shield polished.

You won't be dissappointed John.

Im so excited!!!!
Do the turbo's come primed or do I have to do that?
I look at it this way,the kit is making the same if not more power as my 70 shot. That made driving fun.Later on down the road,I know im going to get power hungry and this kit makes it soooo easy to upgrade

We "prime" all the turbchargers with synthetic oil before shipping them out. You don't need to do anything just bolt on and go. I do recommend you take it easy for the first 50 miles to allow the bearings to seat properly. After that, boost away!

John, we got your Oil Pan yesterday and will be installing the oil drain fitting tomorrow.

only if it is built to recirculate, so the metered air stays in the piping and doesn't get vented... which means no PSSSHH noise.

no vent-to-atmosphere BOVs work on maf systems.

(well, it would WORK but every time you let off the gas or shift the car will run extremely rich compensating for the air that isn't there any more and either foul your plugs up horribly or stall the car out)

Hey John.

I apologize for the lack of a recent update. We had a major problem with the guy that does our downpipes. He made our order with the wrong flange. He flanged them for the T28 instead of 13g like we asked. Your oil pan came out great though. Your going to be really happy with that.
At this point we are just waiting for the guy to make some new downpipes with the correct flange. He promised us he will work on Sunday to get it done so we can ship your kit first thing monday morning.
I guess this means your gonna get your freebie gift!! :)
Please PM me your shipping address when you get a chance and I'll get your free gift out to you ASAP.

Turbo is in but car will not run without having to bypass the unichip.Something must have gone wrong with the programming.I've been on the phone with Dave all most all night. So,no boost for me :(
I jumped 2 wires on the unichip so I could drive home.I was also advised by Dave that the actuator rod would have to be disconnected so I couldnt overboost without the unichip operating properly.Ok no big deal.Driving home, the car wouldnt go over 4k rpms and when it did,it would bog severly.I have a tps code,a maf code that is related to the chip not being plugged in and a rich code. This has been a very long day and this week is goin to be hell without my car.Now I need to send back the uni-chip so they can figure out what the hell is goin on with it.Shat happens and Dave and John have been so nice about it that I cant get mad at them.Welcome to Forced Induction. My head hurts and im goin to go to sleep

Bad luck dude.

Seems like perhaps the crank sensor wire wasn't hooked up properly?

I got the wiring right on the first shot (there was no proper instruction booklet for that at the time), double check everything!

Also, do you still have that line for the PCV that goes to the IM? Get rid of it.

Thats the same problem I had and it was because of my crankshaft position sensor wiring got loose when installing the turbo, Triple check that thing and make sure the sensor is all the way plugged in and check your wiring to make sure its right and its got a good connection! I hope you get it fixed because I know what its like to have a car down :(

Very nice man. Glad to know everything went well for the most part. Roughly, how much did you spend with the turbo kit and the extras???

How long do you think you spent on the install, and what do you think total cost is? take some pics and get that thing Dynoed.

The Entry Level Kit is on sale now for 2300 USD plus shipping. The pre-drilled and tapped oil pan option is 200USD with 75-100USD refund upon return of your old pan. With the oil pan option the Entry Level becomes a true bolt on affair. Install time may be 2-4hrs depending on your skill level.

Hey John,
If you wouldn't mind can you submit a customer testimonial on alpine's testimonial page? http://www.alpine-developments.us/customertestimonials.htm

Ok now im having issues. For the past 2 days while at wot in 3rd gear it feels like im hitting a wall.Today the CEL started started to flash.I have the scantool in the car and had p0300,p0301,p0302 and o2s b1/s1 no activity.Went to check the freeze frame data to see what was goin on and it had cleared before I could see the data. Now im not sure if it is getting not enough fuel or what.

i had a flashing cel once but it was because of a loose plug :)

o2 bank 1 sensor 1 is your first o2 sensor, if that's broken your car won't go into closed loop. something else might have been setting it off, but get that checked out too.

Are you serious?That can't be :)
Im thinking that the o2 code came up due to a running condition.Im more worried about the lack of/too much fuel prob. Can't really tell at this point because I need to get those damn gauges coming

Pull your plugs and take pictures and send them to me. I can tell you if its running lean or not. If this is something that just started happening I'd lean towards either your cat being plugged up or you primary O2 sensor going bye bye. How many miles on your car?

Ok will do.Yea,it started the other night coming home from work. Can't be that the cat is bad, because there is no such critter on my car ;)

Update...Found out that even this kit don't like the stock exhaust. So I removed the tailpipe assembly. That helped out a lil.Goin to have 2.5 exhaust ran from the turbo back shortly.
Ok it's a new year.Time for some serious modding.First off is goin to be a intercooler set-up from Mahonroy and then exhaust. After thats in place, the rest is goin to be motor work and upgrades

Ok,I ordered the intercooler kit from Matt tonight.w00t! That way there is little to no downtime and ease of installation.
Also went to autozone and bought a fartcan for my exhaust that will be done middle of this coming week.Im have 2.5" pipe ran from the turbo back :)
This should be all the mods until this summer

i might be added to this list as well. Im getting a pretty big Tuittion refund from school this semester. i want to save some of it, but im thinking about dishin out for the entry level alpine. what other costs should i expect? $2400 kit + what else?

05xd
01-14-2007, 07:41 PM
On top of the kit price,I opted for the oilpan-$200 but you get a core back
I bought a pillar pod for my gauges-$70 bucks
EGT,Boost,A/F gauge-$170
Turbo timer-$50
Intercooler kit(optional)-$800
Exhaust(to be done)-$200+

It only gets better.Upgrading is the fun part. The sky is the limit on spending for ya :)

NY2002ElantraGT
01-14-2007, 10:21 PM
well i would do the oil pan option as well, i would wait for the intercooler and exhaust cuz i have a 2.5" right now. and i would probably get the turbo timer and boost guage, maybe an A/F guage... so not bad. i would probably upgrade my clutch the same time i added the intercooler and exhaust. Thanks 05xd for the info, i hope this refund check works out and i'll be rollin in $$$$$

I have a update as well :p
I got my exhaust done thursday. 2.5" turbo back to fartcan.I got on it and the frigging boost spiked to 13 psi.....not good,at least for now til the intercooler kit comes in.Needless to say, there will be no hard driving til then.I really don't feel like building a engine at this time lol.Other than that,im loving teh turbo :)

toymachine566
02-03-2007, 09:00 PM
I got the same one as you. And no boost pressure drop at all. If any, it is very minimal.....

I asked the guy at the dyno if the boost was dropping (I dont have time to watch it at those speeds on the highway, only peek down once in a while) and he said nope, it held 15psi the whole time :D

I don't know about the Tiburons, but to the left and right of the radiator there will be a sheet of metal on each side that you will need to cut away to get the charge piping and couplers around the radidator. I wont lie, they were a ***** for me to cut, bit I was using a dremel and wal-mart cutting wheels (went through about 6 on each side lol). So with the right cutting equipment you should be alright. After that its just conecting the charge piping together. You may also have to cut the hood support, the way the intercooler sits it acts as a direct replacement for the hood support you just cut. :)

Definitely quality work. Good luck

Well I got the piping today and the hot side is too long and the cold side is too short.I can't really blame Matt because he was probably goin by memory. So yea, still no intercooler set-up.I was lookin forward to taking this beast to the track on the 25th but there is no way in hell that I will be able to until I can locate someone that can get me some pipes made up asap.Arg,too much money and nothing to show for it.I think it is time to look for a subie or a srt-4.

I had bought that boost controller and I couldnt get it to work right it would either make my boost super high (like 20+) or it would make my boost come and go, it was really strange and no matter how I adjusted the actuator arm it wouldnt work right, I wouldnt suggest using it but thats just me, goodluck.

One question, How were you able to secure the IC from the bottom??? I left mine since there wasnt nough metal to secure it to and just left it tightened to the hood support.

Hows she drive:D

Hahaha.I had the same problem but I used cable tie straps around the inlet and out let and strapped it to my A/C condenser. She has a little bit more wheelspin than before :)
Thats all im goin to say.
The boost pressure isn't spiking as much as it did before now which is a good thing

The biggest problem I ran into was that the intercooler was so tall, the hood latch wouldn't clear it for crap.I ended up having to use hood pins :(
Oh wells,CF hood time

Same as a t3/t4 style turbo exhaust?I can't seem to get a answer back from Dmdicks on what we can use on these manifold/dp set-ups.Now im thinking about ditching the manifold in favor of a t3 style manifold and t3/t4 turbo. If it comes down to it,I could always have the exhaust flange cut off and a t3 exhaust flange welded on but I would like to see if the existing dp could be re-used

UPDATE: 9/1/07
I had an exhaust leak that I started to notice last night.Today I found it. The turbo was loose and there was gap about the thickness of a penny between the turbo and the manifold. Do you know how hard it is to tighten them bastages up while it is still on the car? Is this a sign of things to come?!?!?!
