I know a lot of you guys have to get the cars ready for winter by removing various mods or switching to other wheels and so forth. So, is the car ready for the winter?

Bah, I don't even want to think about winter. I'm glad it's not as bad here as it is for Felix and them up in canada.
I need to buy a set of steelies for the winter..but I need money for that..

I have been too busy lately.
I need to change my grill, and put the winter wheels on.
That's about it for the winter mods.

I haven't bought alloys yet, nor do i have any major suspension mods that make driving in snow bad...so I change nothing.

driving to get my snows from the in-laws place in two weeks. It snowed in Kitchener-Waterloo today...I was a little nervous that 2 weeks might be too far away.
(I don't have enough room to store them here, so it's a 5 hour drive to go and put them on) Then I need to get the car oiled as well, get some of that fish oil on there to prevent the rusting.

I need to change wheels/tires, switch the KDM grill to OEM, remove the 'lip pieces' from the bottom of the car, remove chrome exhaust tip, swap the carpet floor mats for rubber floor mats, and maybe remove the headlight eyelids. I used to take them off for winter, but last year I siliconed them on and they didn't want to come off without a fight, so I just left them.

Im hoping for one more meet in the next week or so. after that, winter wheels, and removing my front lip. with the front lip i have a 4 inch clearance, so unless i plan on being a snow plow, its gotta come off. other than that, i think thats all im gonna do. Do you guys suggest switching out my Chrome headlights and KDM fogs for the winter? im not sure what damage the salt and sand might have on them.
i just wanna get snow tires.. and i havnt done that yet. So im not ready :P

I still need to put my snow tires on my rims i just got from zx2uner... Thanks again man.... then i need to put switch rims on the car, prolly do an oil change, oh and clean the guk out of the front fenders. But before all that i gotta finish the garage off. Still gotta insulate the walls and clean it up... So please keep the really cold and snow away for a couple more weeks....

I selected yes because I moved my studded snow tires/winter steelies out of storage and have them ready when needed. They are not legal until November 1st but I don't foresee going over any of the mountain passes in the Cascades or Coastal Range for a while and the weather doesn't really get bad around here in the valley until January or so. The tire store does the changeover no charge ... that's a plus. Last year, I took them off because it was so warm in February and then, naturally, we had a winter storm before winter was over. Imagine that. Had to put the studs back on.
We get more ice (freezing rain/freezing fog) than snow, but even when it does snow, it's really wet and slippery. It's not that nice sticky powder like in the mountains.

That's always the worst kind, I'd rather have sticky powder...at least you won't slide all over the road.

I need to wax and polish the car one more time to be ready.
all you people in warm climates make me sick!
heh, jfw-yall i actually like pgh more or less and dont mind having a winter, wouldnt mind going a little south though so its more of a balanced cycle, only having a few months of the good warm summer is kinda sucky..

I have the car the way it is now so I don't need to change anything. I hated having to store extra wheels and tires when I had my 17's. I especially hated when those warm winter days would pop up and I was stuck on my nasty 14" winter wheels/tires. That was my reasoning for going to the 16's. Same performance year round.

^^^After doing the swapping (& storing) for a few years now, I will def. be going the same route you did if I ever buy new wheels. 16" with all-season tires.

can't get away with all seasons up here (well, shouldn't!)

I wish I didn't have to swap tires/wheels but it's only twice a year so it's not that big of an issue. I live on a mountainside and all season tires won't get me up or down an icy 7% grade so I have to have those studs in the winter.

Never really winterized my car before.... what do you guys suggest for a Long Island winter? we get some good snow, lots of ice. I also do alot of driving to vermont to snowboard.
I have my stock GT wheels with snowtires to put on, im gonna take off my front lip so im not plowing snow, I just got a new Optima Yellow Top battery, but what about fluids and detailing?

ive got nothin to really winterize well besides wash and wax. all my mods will come around mid winter - spring and then when all the snow is gone, new rims and tires, body kit, new paint.

I put my OEM tires back on over the weekend, pulled the front and rear trim pieces, removed the exhaust tip, and put the rear mudflaps back on. I still need to change my grill, pull the side trim pieces, and put the front mudflaps on.
After examining the condition of my 'winter' tires, I think I'm heading out shopping for new ones the next time I see a sale. (probably all season Falken Ziex ZE512s)

All things being equal I'd personally rather drive slow on slippery roads than give er thru deep poweder and then get stuck. unfortunatly all things are not equal and the problem is other drivers being tool bags and not driving responsibly. The worst by far are drivers of 1/2 ton ish trucks.....somehow they think their uber heavy truck will stop on anything and wont spin out if they only give it 99% throttle. 2nd worst is suv drivers.

You would want my OE steelies??? Year-round 16s wouldn't be a horrible idea. Maybe I'll look around and see what's out there (and at what cost) in the 16" market.

I don't, but my "second wife" needs 4 rims. She's bent all 4 of her steelies. So yes, I wanna purchase some used steelies.

did i ever tell you that i hate you? hehe
im going frantic tryin to find some local good snow tires, now that its snowing out right now and people keep calling me going "oh i slid all the way home" and im like great, im on the stick tires that wore faster then normal and i slide in the RAIN let alone the Snow! also my mechanic never got back to me on pricing and he said that in the 195 60 15 range even the best tires arnt the greatest, he said you really need to move up to the 65 15 range to get some real tread b/c most ofthe 60 are performance

suv drivers are horrible in the winter, it like they cause sooo many accidents by being overconfident.
but F the winter, im not winterizing my car and im not sure if i'll store it this winter. Im just gonna wash it alot because I won't being doing much driving, only to work and school total of 10 miles a day. And my driver fender, hood, grill and rear door are f'd up so I am thinkin forget about winterizing. Although I may get a second car to drive i don't know yet.
just put on my snow tires today and put the scraper in the car and re-filled up the wiper spray.. im all set for winter -also have a spare jacket in the back and an x-tra set of gloves.. it was 18 degrees this morning in the lovely city of pittsburgh! woo
