Nice man - springs and tints! Great work. I have 20% and I've always wanted racing style seats.

Any pics of just the STi seats, or them going in? That would be great.

i'd rather not have an air bag. it just goes off when i dont need it to and then it will cause more damage. plus air bags are so expensive to replace that if they go off and you car has little damage they will still totall out the car, which is bs. plus i have 5pt harness belts with a harness bar going to be installed. so i would feel safer with that then a air bag.

Now it just doesn't go off when you do need it to. Harnesses work good too, but usually in combination with a helmet. I don't think that harness will do a thing for you on side-impact, whereas a seat-mounted airbag would. Airbag deletion for an on-road car never seems like a good idea to me.

good thing you have stock seats with air bags then! :D

Yeah, I'm about to replace the seats in my car, and I never really thought about the airbags..but then again, I'm not sure my car HAS side airbags. Maybe I should find out..

^^ your car should have the air bags. but the main reason i replaced them is because i have back pains and those seats didnt help at all, these new onws are recaro STi remakes. they are wayyyy better for my back

Same reason i'm replacing them. Those OEM seats are on my last nerve.

All 2001+ Elantras sold in the U.S. have side-impact airbags in the seats. I beleive there were a few odd-balls early-on in Canada that did not have them.

Tiburon seats are a good swap-in option because you can retain the side-impact airbags, as the Tib seats also have them.

On a side note, when you remove the seats and delete the airbags, it causes the airbag light to come on the dash, doesn't it? From what I remember reading here, I'm pretty sure if that light is on, NONE of your airbags will deploy in a crash.

yeah thats correct, but tib seats are not comfortable either, i think there is a way to fab up a by-pass to make the computer think that the air bag is still there..

no it cool that you want to change the seat, i wanted to do so also but since i live in california, and if you get into a wreck and they find out that you modified the seat, the will not cover any accident that cause injury to you because you modified the seat. that is the only reason why i didnt do it, i had racing seat that i had of my honda, but sold them because of the stupid air bag that comes with our car now if they didnt they you can change the seats that is why honda owners can do it, just like the stearing wheel same thing they wont cover you if you change the steering wheel. i had a after market momo and couldn't use it on the hyundai. sometimes i want my honda back.

It's really not that it's the difference between the Honda and Hyundai, but older vs. newer. I'm guessing if you didn't have an airbag in the steering wheel, it was an older Honda, as they all have them now. Airbags in the seats are probably going to be the same way. Right now not all manufacturers put them there, but more and more will as time goes on.

it would be very nice to have aftermarket seats... The elantra seats sometimes feel like bus benches... My friend told me about a way to ground the airbag sensor wire so it thinks that the air bag is still there... anyone else heard of this technique?
Also, is it legal to put in aftermarket seats?

ooo.. more info please.. yes its illegal to take air bags out of your car. but the odds of you getting a ticket for it are slim

DAMMIT

YOU DONT UNDERSTAND DO YOU

All you need is a resistor that jumps the airbag sensor....

HOW HARD IS THAT

latelly in california, they are stopping for everything so the likely hood that you would get a ticket is high , because of all the punk kids that street race when we have a perfectly good track sorry to get off topic

I am almost 100% sure that my 03 gt with the leather seats doesn;t have air bags in the seats...just driver and passenger front ones....

^possible. I think it was an option to get them in Canada, whereas it was standard in the U.S. There should be a tag/label on the side of the seat with an SRS on it if there are airbags in the seats.

good Q, its more mod. i had to make a bracket to attach the stock seat belt holder to the new seat... like how it is on the stock seats
