View Full Version : crank pulley bolt won't tighten

I installed my OBX Crank and Water pulleys today.
The water pulley was a pain in the rear to get in...

The Crank pulley was not to hard to get off, but a pain to get the new one on. I only got it fit nice and snug and then used the breaker bar to tighten the nut. The problem is I don't think I tightened it enough. The brass plate behind the pulley is nice and snug (no rattle), but the nut won't tighten anymore because the crank turns with it... I tried tightening the belts and putting a screwdriving in the alternator pulley to "hold down" the crank pulley, but it did not work very well...

Does anyone know how to tighten the crank pulley bolt nice and tight? (without an impact wrench... even with an impact wrench, I'm guessing the crank just turns).

I did a search... any suggestions would be helpful. thanks!

Put the car in gear and have someone hold the brake. That will stop the crank from turning.

impact wrench is the answer.
