Has anyone replaced the filiment bulb with an L.E.D? I have been looking at these, but not sure if it is as bright.

The clear lights in the headlight assembly are the ones I am talking about. Would this make a fake halo effect?

Well it only $6.80 with shipping, so I just ordered it to find out. To impacient for a reply.

The 5-led 'matrix' bulbs are pretty bright. I use them in my autometer gauges, as well as the transmission indicator (auto trans) and it does a really good job of lighting them up in color.

the biggest problem with L.E.D.'s in your headlight, is they are VERY unidirectional.
your normal headlight globe will allow a bit of light to "spread out" to the sides - which also helps to illuminate the area either side of the road

thats why those ones have so many LED's to make up one 'globe' to try and get a similar effect or at least have some half decent frontal illumination.

let us know how good they are tho :)

I think he's planning on using the bulbs not as "the" headlight, but replacing the citylight/daytime-running-light that is in some headlights (not sure what years had them, my '02 doesn't).

194 for what locaction the inst. cluster? or outside if the inst cluster i can tell you the diffence i used 10mm blue Led frosted them and it works perfect so far tho a direct 194 led replacment would have been aolt faster =p

The LEDs in the citylight hole wouldn't quite work. As 06elantra said, they are too unidirectional. You would only see a spot of light as opposed to a small glow in the whole headlight housing. Just get a good quality Super White incandescent bulb, that's what I use, and they look great.

They seem to work great to me. They are not unidirictional though. They are 1 forward faceing and 4 side faceing bulbs per bulb (Ummm I know thats a wierd statement). The only problem I had was with the 4 facing to the sides, the bulb end up being about 1-2mm wider than oem. Thought it wasn't going to fit at first, but I got a bigger hammer :) I have them both in now an it produces enough light to project onto things now, not just light up the houseing.

Keep us informed as to how long they last. L.E.D.s are not usually built to stand heat very well, and I'd be concerned with the heat that the headlight puts out.

Will do, installed on 11/19/06. If/when they burn out I will find this thread and post.

As for myself, i replace my 194 front marker light by 168 PIAA super plasma GT-X. I also replace my H7 low beam with PIAA Xtreme white plus. It make a Huge difference. At the price they cost (Nearly $100.00 for the 2 pair), if they had'nt made a good effect, i would have cry. Another thing i like with PIAA, is that the bulb have a 1 year warranty. Try to find another light compagny who offer that. ;)

OK, you seem to be right, either the heat/cold got to em or they just suck, but one is completly dead and one strobes, (on its way out) So they lasted ALMOST 3 months, poop. :( Guess I will go back to incondesent, but hopefully white. It just sucks cause they looked REALLY good, until they started flikering.

PIAA makes some "HID" 194's that work really well. I have a set in the headlights on mine, and they have worked very well.

What did just the piaa 194 set cost you. The other thing that sucks is I have to take my entire headlight assembly out, take out the LB and shake the assembly to get the damn leds out, cause they are to big for the hole, so the barely fit in, when I pulled to get them out they fell into the houseing.

here is a cheap set of inverted ones which helps with the common downside to unidirectional LEDs.
