so i've been keeping up with the forum for a while now, just didn't have anything remotely useful to add. so here's the deal: i got into a little accident. the gist of the story is that some reckless driver bumped into me around a bend causing me to lose control and hit a wall (it was raining pretty badly). the rear passengers side bumper hit the wall first and then the front end swung around and hit it sideways. the rear bumper is scuffed up (all it needs is to be sanded and painted), but the front end is a little more messed up. the fender is a little bent pushing up against the headlight and the front bumper cover is pretty scuffed up and cracked/there's a hole in it. i went to the dealership to see how much it would cost to get a new fender and front bumper cover and they said $139.92 for the bumper and $86.98 for the fender. i called up a body shop to see how much they would charge to paint the parts and they said around $250. all of which sounds reasonable. i'm sort of on a tight budget and would like to get all of this done with minimal cost. now my question is how difficult is it to swap out these parts (front bumper/fender)? and anyone want to give me a real quick walkthrough/any pitfalls to watch out for? thanks!
oh, and i can probably post a few pics later if it'll help.

I would check out www.hmaservice.com and sign up (free, use the "Lost Password" link) and see what you can find out about removal of those pieces. Shouldn't be too much work really.

swapping the parts should be really easy, a few turns of the wrench, I would just be more worried about lining the parts up :)

Here is a DIY (http://www.dfwhyundais.com/diy/FogLights/DIY-BumperFasciaRemoval.html) on removing the front bumper fascia. (The DIY was actually done by wills03 (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/member.php?u=2640); I just packaged it into a DIY).
Also, to remove a front fender, remove the fender well liner, then remove all the screws around the perimeter of the fender. I've done it in a jukyard just for the fun of it; it's pretty straightforward. This is what it looked like after I got it off (for whatever it's worth):

sweet! that DIY is going to be vital friday. i just hope the frame isn't bent. after taking a closer look, the hood doesn't sit quite right, hopefully it's just the bent fender. also, is it necessary to get the INSIDE of the fender painted? the guy at the body shop told me it'll rust if i don't.

might be a good time to go with an aftermarket bumper... if you need a new oem bumper y not upgrade?

Yeah, but looks like they had to cut a lot of the frame away from where the headlights are.

Generally front end conversions go horribly wrong but that actually looks good!

You know, that may be what I want to do to my car. I don't give a **** what anyone thinks, I think that would look badass on an '02 GLS.

it looks great, but Felix is right. Look at the bumper frame cut and im sure they had to cut around the headlights. Those fenders are definately modified toward the door. final product is sick, but way more work that what Ninja is lookin for.
i still think an aftermarket bumper would be a good idea. or if you have an 01-03 gls, a 01-03 GT bumper would be a cool idea, u just gotta get a new grille

wow, that front end conversion looks sweet...i wish i had the time/patience/money to do that. i have an 06 and it's too late for an aftermarket piece..i already ordered the parts. the aftermarket bumper was $50 more expensive so i opted for the OEM. parts will be in tomorrow, painted by thursday and installed by friday night.
