I was at Hyundai City in Burlington NJ on Saturday morning for a routine oil/filter change
and the service manager told me that Hyundai now is recommending fuel
injection/carbon cleaning every 24,000 miles and they wanted to do my 2005
Elantra GLS. I have 23,000 miles.
Can anyone here provide me with printed documentation from Hyundai stating
that fuel injection/cabon cleaning is now recommended at 24,0000 miles??

Their charge is 99.99 for this service.

Thanks

Waste of money my friend. Tell them you'll pass.

So the service manager is being less than honest with his statement?

The general consensus of the board, the elantra does not need fuel injection cleaning. Apparently, the injectors do not clog.

its bs. i worked at a lub shop for years. they are starting to work people at dealer ships on a hourly+commission pay. so if they make the dealership money they make some extra too. not much just like 5 bucks, but still. the cleaning system should be done on every car but not till like 70k. depending on how hard you drive it. if you drive like a 90 year old grandma, then 50k. but if you drive like your on a race track then dont even worry about it.

I drive like a 90 year old grandma, so I will have it done at 50K.

You can find it at other shops for cheaper, or you can buy or make a kit and do it yourself whenever you want for probably cheaper.

Take off the intake elbow, open the throttle body, and look inside. Is there alot of carbon build up? If yes, get the service done, if no, don't worry about it.

I recently got a flier from the dealer touting this service. I'm kinda skeptical. They claim it cleans the pistons, valves, injectors etc.

Does it do anything?

As I understand it some carbon actually aids in sealing?

I'm at 137K miles & the motor still runs strong. It's had 5w50 Syntec at regular intervals since 6K miles.

I'm not inclined to mess with something that's working fine.

Oh yeah. The service they were selling was a lot more than $100....
