ok, well, it rained yesterday and my spare tire was floating in about 6 inches of water. called the stealership and they said its not covered by waranty so me and my gramps(well, HE decided) decided that we can try to fix it ourselves and if it dosen't work, we'll take it to the stealership. any suggestions or anything like that? plannin on goin to an auto parts store and buyin something my gramps thinks will fix this. it would also be better if me and him could agree on where the water is comin in from!

well, i went out to advanced autoparts and got some waterproof filler and we're gonna take all the trunk lineing off, pour water on the car, and fill all potental holes.

thanks, i fixed it today, really stupid though what it is, is water runs down the weather stripping and gets into a tiny hole where the sheet metal us joind together, then runs into the trunk, had a real hard time trying to figure that out today, got a little sealant and fixed it ;)

looked for a hole anywhere in the hatch area today,, couldn't find anything ,,,any chance you can provide a picture of where you found the hole...

thanks

hoping to find this before the weather turns cold. of course on the other hand ice tends to not run the way water does..

there is a hole/seal right under the spare tire...and those have a big problem for leaking in hyundias..check it out .. I had a hyundia Scoupe 92 that did the same thing as my elantra and werent through hell trying to find the leak but that should be the problem...

on mine, water ran down the weather stripping and into a gap where the sheet metal joins together.

so, i talked to my grampa(primary driver till february), and he said that the body filler didnt help. i guess there where bubbles or sometihng in it so, the water still went through. my grampa took the weather stripping off, and rotated it, and he said that helped ALOT! this is temporary until we get new weatherstripping.

Well I think I found something today. the missing leak:rolleyes:

Ok so I'm out removing rabbit from my right front suspension , yes rabbit , bunny committed suicide by Elantra the other night and it has been too damn cold to get him out of there till today. So after removing the last of the fur from my caliper/rotor area and trying to find a break in the speed sensor wire I decided to check my trunk again.:( :(

It had about an inch of water ( not bad but remember its been below freezing ) and I checked the strips that I had put in to see where the water was coming from.

So far I replaced the weatherstripping around the hatch , removed and reseated with waterproofing both tail lights and the grommet for the third brake light, so still finding water in the spare tire well was anoying to say the least.

Water was coming in about 3-4 inches to the right of the trunk latch, but the strip between that and the tail light was dry. Pulled the trim off the inside of the hatch and found water inside the trim and a stain:eek: (rust) coming down from the marker light on the hatch. Removed the light and the weather stripping was torn just at the bottom by where it has a slot tab that holds it in place. Tear was about 3/8 of an inch and very easly seen once removed,it was small enough to just let in a drip or so at a time but large enough to be a pain.

Sealed it as best as I could and ordered two new seals from the dealer , so now I guess I wait untill it rains again, but I think this was the last leak.:D

I took pictures and will try to download them if I can figure out how, that show the tear and the water stain that led me to the leak. So this is one more place that anyone who still has a leaky hatch can try.

Dealer cost on the rubber weatherstripping around the light $8.93 ,pretty cheep considering what I have spent till now on fixing the leak.

But funny the dealership had no idea that there is a leak in the back of an elantra, hahahhahhahah....
