So i just dropped off my car at the dealer for the 60k service and the tape on the door pillars... here's the run down.
The 60k service at this dealership includes:
Replace Oil & Filter (synthetic oil)
Install Krex Graphite Engine Lubricant
Replace Fuel Filter
Install Krex Fuel System & Injector Cleaner
Replace Air Filter
Replace Transmission Fluid & Filter
Replace engine coolant and flush system
Replace PCV valve
Replace wheel bearing grease
Replace wiper blades
Lube all door hinges
Tire Rotation
Balance Wheels
Set air pressure in tires
and then they will inspect the following:
brake system
exhaust system
cooling system hoses and connections
all fluids
drive shafts and boots
ignition timining
spark plugs
ignition system
idle speed
drive belts
Now for all this, they are charging me $455.95 (minus a bit because i didnt need ALL of the services done) However, the timing belt is not included but is recommended, and they told me that it would be about another $500 to do. They are supposed to call me later when they have an actual dollar amount for it to see if i want to do it. So obviously if the timing belt is going to cost that much, I will be getting that done somewhere else for ALOT cheaper. But as far as everything else goes, does that seem fair?

Replace Oil & Filter (synthetic oil) - 30$ - 30 min
Install Krex Graphite Engine Lubricant - engine lubricant for what? isnt that what OIL is for?
Replace Fuel Filter -15$ - 45 min
Install Krex Fuel System & Injector Cleaner - pour in gas tank? <10$, 1 minute
Replace Air Filter - stock? 10-15$ and 5 minutes
Replace Transmission Fluid & Filter - auto im guessing, 50$ for fluid, 10 for filter, not sure on time
Replace engine coolant and flush system - 40$ and an hour?
Replace PCV valve - 5$ or so in a few minutes
Replace wheel bearing grease - if needed
Replace wiper blades - 20$ 10 minutes
Lube all door hinges - if needed
Tire Rotation - if needed.
Balance Wheels - if needed
Set air pressure in tires - do it yourself in 10 minutes
and then they will inspect the following:
brake system
exhaust system
cooling system hoses and connections
all fluids
drive shafts and boots
ignition timining
spark plugs
ignition system
idle speed
drive belts

so if my prices are right, you're looking at 200 in parts...you could do most/all of that yourself in a day.
as for the timing belt, if you do not replace it now, and it snaps and bends valves before 100k miles, warranty will not cover it. 500 if they change the ACC belts seems about right.

So just got the call from the dealership, after inspecting my car, they have found a leaky fuel dampener, which they will replace under warranty (thankfully). And I now also need to have my brake fluid and power steering fluid flushed and replaced due to floating particles in the fluid... on the brightside, they are going to do all the belts and the fluids i just mentioned for an additional $300. So now i'm looking at $755.95 worth of work done today... excluding warranty work. BLAH! Merry F-ing Christmas to me.

Which Hyundai dealer is your car at? I've had my fuel dampener replaced 3x, probably going to be going in for a 4th time in another month or two (starting to smell fuel). It seems like it needs to be replaced once a year for me.

^yeah, dunno wtf the deal is with it. First time, ok - things break. 2nd time, maybe they put it on wrong. 3rd time, this is wierd. Now if there's a 4th time - something else is going to be changed, because even though they're all warrantied, this is getting old.

The tab for my 60K service at the dealership with timing belt and water pump replacement is $765 so it sounds like you're getting an "average deal".

I'm at O'hare Hyundai now, since the dealer by my house closed down (Jacob's Twin).. So far these guys already seem better than the morons at Jacobs Twin. My car was dropped off at 7am and i'll have it back at 4pm. Last time I took my car to jacobs twin to get the 30,000 service, it was there other night. now, keep in mind that i am getting 60k service, plus fuel dampener and door pillar tape done today... all in one day.

make sure they remove the tape and paint. i went thru a BIG issue w/ the dealership over mine (theres a thread for it)...they fixed one side and not the 2nd, and when i said something, they tried to say they shouldnt have done the one side because its a 'paint issue'. i told them its not paint, they said because they fix it with paint, its only 36k. once i talked to sed and found out because its stuck on its considered a 'decal', its covered to 60, and demanding 3x to talk to a DM, they finally fixed it.
of course like 2 months later i slid on ice and went into a ditch and destroyed both doors, and just got 2 replacement doors with tape that was peeling.

wth is a fuel dampener?
From another post of mine:
Here's a picture of the part that is most likely at fault. It is part number 35301B "Damper-Pulsation". It lists for $17.98 through my dealer (more than I thought), but as I said it should be covered under warranty.

and what does the problem cause? i guess i never had a problem w/ mine

it leaks, resulting in gasoline odor entering the cabin, especially if you drive the car, then park it, then get back in and start it up. Sitting at a stoplight with the vents on gets pretty-bad too. I haven't noticed much lately, but a couple times in the past few weeks I smelled gas after starting the car. That's usually the beginning.

Install Krex Graphite Engine Lubricant
Replace Transmission Fluid & Filter
Replace wheel bearing grease
and then they will inspect the following:
ignition timining
Graphite engine lube? The only engine lube you need is oil.
What trans do you have? A manual trans fluid change should cost less than an auto trans flush, and neither have a filter.
The wheel bearings are sealed, there is no way to replace the grease.
There is nothing to inspect regarding ignition timing.

I believe the engine lube is for the bushings and such, since the engine itself does move i would assume that those parts that allow it to rock forward and back need to be lubricated. i could be wrong though...
I have an automatic trans, and i think for alot of the things in the list, they are generic inspect/replace type things for All cars. They gave me a detailed sheet of what work would be done, so i just copied that down in this post.
As for the ignition timing, i'm guessing that has to do with inspecting the sparkplug's firing and anything related to that, but again i could be wrong.
So now for the end of the story, i go to pick up my car at 4, and its there ready and waiting for me, they even washed it! The service guy that i had been dealing with throughout the day even said that "Thats probably the first 'modified' elantra we've had here in a long time, nice work" So we talked cars a bit, and then he took 10% off my bill. I paid, left, and the car runs great, much smoother than before. Final cost = $685.42
I'd have to give MAJOR props to this dealer... A+ service

not bad
and some auto trans DO have a filter. i know when my brother got his trans replaced in his 01 (auto), the guy doing the work had him pick up a new filter along w/ all the other seals/fluids. it sits on top, blue (i believe). VERY obvious when you look at the auto transmissions.
maybe the later ones dont have one, but his 01 did for sure

I was quoted $324 at Gartner in Aurora, IL for 60k service not including timing belt. They couldn't get me a quote on the belt because they didn't have any service writers in.
That included the normal Hyundai 60k service stuff, plugs, wires, coolant, fuel filter, belts, etc. $857 seems high if they aren't doing the plugs and wires, etc.

if theres nothign wrong with the pullies themselves, they dont need changed. they may be doing the timing belt tensioner pulley, but IIRC, thats cheap (under 20$). i was told about 450 for timing belt + drive belts. water pump i think is about 30$, not sure how much tranny/rad flushes go for. i think places around here charge about 80$
i guess if its getting all done at once, and you dont have to screw with it trying to save money, id rather just pay a little bit extra and have it done at once.

I'm afraid of how much mine will cost to get maintenance on all that. I'm about to hit 100,000 miles, I've had it since 67,200, and I've only done routine maintenance on it, that's all I can afford.

My dealership quoted me $760 for 60K service plus timing belt and water pump. $395 for the 60K and $365 for the other items. I'm saving up. I'm at 52,000 miles.

This is exactly why I work on my own car. I would rather spend an evening in my garage. Consume a 30 rail, and not get anally fondled by the dealership. But that's just me.

Are you guys talkin' about replacing a water pump? Is that part of 60K service?
I'll turn 140K miles this week. Yearly drain & fill with coolant mixed myself @ 60/40 DISTILLED water, no flush, & I'm still on original water pump.
Knock wood! :D

I replaced my water pump when I did my timing belt not because it was necessary, but because I was in there anyway and it seemed like a good thing to do. I'm glad I did too, as the old one seemed to be starting to stick a little bit.

Yes, it is usualy less than $100 more for a shop to replace the wp while doing a timing belt replacement, since 90% of the labor is being done for the belt anyway.

Hmmm.... might have to consider that next timing belt change.
Does that apply to my Y2K or just the later models?

My dealer quoted me $500 for the Timing Belt service. $450 with a 10% coupon I have.
I need to verify that they look at all the accessory belts I guess. If not, then $450 does sound like a bit much, right?
I am at 56K and will be taking care of it now instead of waiting for the 60K service so that I don't have to drop so much money all at once.

The price seems to be the same at all of the dealers around here. This is something that I don't trust any place else to do, so I guess I'll have to take it in the rear on this one.
Damn.

I always have the water pump done with the timing belt. It's cheap insurance against a water pump bearing failure. My estimate from the local dealership was $880 for the entire 60K service, all inclusive. If I want the brake lines flushed, that's another $100. I'm more than willing to pay to have it done so I have some recourse if there is a problem and there will also be no questions if I need any warranty work in the following 40,000 miles. I'm at 56,000 now and stashing money away already for the service. I've already done the brakes and have new tires and wheels so after the 60k service, I'll be good to go for a long time.
