Hey guys. I'm lookin to jump into the Hyundai foray and I'm just curious about the potential of the XD and the kinds of parts I can get when going "all motor". Of the following, what is available?
Intake manifolds
Cams
Headers
ECU tuning
Pistons
Motor swaps
I had a '93 Accord and up until it died it really boogied. The XD isn't as much of a looker IMO but it seems like it can be a whole lot faster. What is the most powerful all-motor XD here, and what kind of parts does it have? LMK, and hello new world!

by all-motor you mean no FI? If so, I believe 140ish whp is the best without a turbo.
ecu tuning, good luck
motor swaps, even better luck
the rest of the stuff should be pretty available. Intake manifolds are harder to come by, the best bet is to get yours P&P'd..
hope that helps. Also, search is your friend. A lot of this stuff has been covered very recently.

Intake manifolds - haha. one aftermarket available, or port your stock one
Cams - custom or going to be very aggressive
Headers - sure
ECU tuning - not going to happen any time soon
Pistons - sure, but you're not going to need them without doing a lot more work
Motor swaps - dream on...these arent honda/acuras
What is the most powerful all-motor XD here
id like to think i was probably close to being there, but i never got a chance to dyno with all my mods, so ill never know...AFAWK, jim with his 140.95 is the highest whp n/a, but the weekend he was out me and him went from a dig and when i shifted into 4th (used to end my 1/4 mile at the end of 3rd), i had about 1/3 car on him.

Yes, Evan has left the rest of us with much to live up to...but what he posted is correct.
Your best bet is to buy another motor and build it rather than doing it piecemeal while its in the car...especially since anything really good N?A wil both require lots of cash, downtime and pieces being pulled out...

There was a racing team called Keymotorsport here in St-Eustache, Qc who was able to squeeze out 250 Bhp (i think) from a Beta engine. So as far as i know, if you go all motor, it's possible to have those numbers on a beta 2 engine. The only thing is be ready to spend a whole lot of cash on it and also you gonna have to find a real good tuning shop for that.

yup. You can get a lot of horsepower from the Beta motors, but its gonna cost you some cold cash if you do it via forced induction, or some very cold had cash if you go all N/A.
If you want to go All N/A (and your budget knows few bounds.....I suggest:
1. Cold air intake
2. Stainless steel mandrel bent exhaust
3. Good Header
4. Port/polish intake manifold from carbonman
5. Phenolic spacer from same guy
6. UDP or accessory pulleys
7. AFC or fuel tuner
8. Ported throttle body
Here's where the motor building begins:
9. Ported/polished heads
10. Valve job
11. Crankshaft worked on, smoothed, lightened and balanced
12. Block given slight overbore
13. Larger pistons
14. ^Bump up compression with those...but be ready for a tuning nightmare
15. Cams and a good ecu retune/reprogram will be essential the second you pass #8
As far as I know, there haven't been ANY N/A guys who have gone past #8...Evan looked into getting cams made but there wasn't enough interest around here for it. Ultimately, If you would go past #8, you would be one of our N/A pioneers...right in with the Ranks of Evan, Jim, and FordFasterr...If you decide to do it...good luck, let us know how it goes. And how much it costs.

.... dude over boring and larger pistons that have the same height and same stroke rods means you have LOWER compression.

you could get an ecu upgrade from bseparts gives u a choice of 150 horses with91 gas or 152 horse and 148 tq with 93 octane , so there's that , it's just u have to find some one to take it out for you u have to ship it to the guy and then reinstall it, the rest could be there with pulleys , and such

I've never heard of mail in flashes resulting in real gains without any modifications to the vehicle. I'm sure this could be a whole new thread so I wont really discuss it. If you are going N/A Thats pretty ballsy and I would love to see the outcome and what path and price range you take.
Thanks

I knew there was something slightly off with what I said...my bad.
Rods would also be an important part of any Higher compression N/A build than...

Well pistons too, but taller ones. Anything that makes the compression go higher.

i was thinking exactly what u are now, but a guy over at elantraclub, said that he had it doen with 91 octane ans sees the actual gains so that's why I looked into it, I know that you have to tell them what mods you have already done , or what you're planning on doing, so they set it up differently, but that's all I know I've been debating the whole process myself.

at the track i'd have beat you evan. i've said it time and again, i don't like street racing. it makes me nervous. you had a bumper on me, thats about it. from a 20roll i jumped you hard and you know that.

Come on you two, don't start arguing again...you both have the top spots as far as N/A goes with regards to Numbers and 1/4 times...
Could you guys post up parts lists in this thread? I think it might be helpful. I.e. What mods, purchsed from who, etc...
thanks!
