View Full Version : Picked up SLVRs CF Hood Saturday...

Took my buddy's Dodge Ram diesel out to pick it up with. I hate trucks that have loose steering, but I suppose that's how all trucks end up.

My g/f and I left around 6 am to head out to Chandler AZ to pick up the hood. Drive out there wasn't bad, would have made the 370 mile drive in a little over 4 hours but AZ freeways are so damn confusing. Who the hell has 2 connections to a freeway within like 10 miles of each other? lol

After about an hour of retracing my steps to get to SLVRs house we finally arrived. Hood is in pretty good condition...just your minor stuff from the road but nothing really visible unless your looking REALLY close. Hung around with James for about an hour talking cars, trading ideas etc.

The sale and pickup was really smooth and James is a super laid back guy. Really a pleasure to have gotten the chance to meet him.

Went to visit my cousin out near James' house and got lost going to wrong way on a certain road. After about an hour lost and another hour backtracking on the freeway my g/f and I finally made it to my cousins house all the way out in BFE Maricopa, AZ.

Got back very late Saturday night. Round trip time was about 12 hours. I was met very nicely by high winds for half the drive on the 10 back to Cali. Then once I was about 100 miles in Cali I was greeted with frozen rain going through Joshua Tree until I hit Indio and it turned to rain as the temps rose from 35 to 45.

I pulled the hood inside for the night so it was out of the rain and mounted it on the car Sunday. Car got washed at the local car wash and I need to wax the hood tomorrow. I'll take pics of the hood after I get done waxing it.

My immediate project with the hood is to close off the vents from mischievious hands. In my post on the marketplace (http://www.elantraxd.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20679) I need to purchase some small diamond mesh to paint black, clear coat, and fiberglass resin over the vents. So if anyone has what I'm looking for please let me know.

Pics tomorrow!

Oh one other thing...Carbonman...I'll be placing an order this week for A,B, and C CF pillars from you. Do you see much more than the usual delay with holiday shipping? Also, if you don't already, could you ship with tracking info. like UPS?

Is everybody getting CF hoods these days and Driving for hours to get them???

Must be a hot enough commodity. =)

Shipping to me would have been about $150 for it. I think I spent about $20 more than that in gas and had piece of mind it arrived in one piece. The shipping companies with something that lightweight would have smashed it to bits.

I didn't however get any tickets like Kewl... =) Even going ** mph in the truck. The 10 is almost as bad as the 5 to drive. Flat, straight, and nothing to look. You could tie your steering wheel off straight and take a nap.

Well after much waiting here are the pics! =) I have my fair share of tickets trust me. I can go 4 years without them and then get 3 in a year. *knock on wood*

Here's a pic of of vents in the hood I need to mesh off.

I realize the risk of not having hood pins but they certainly would take away from the clean look of the hood and make it look ****ty.

I've had to do a lot of adjusting on the hood bumpers and the latch itself to get the hood to latch down tight with no slack.

It chatters a little bit yeah, but it's a very little bit now and very intermittent. Since on my old hood the MUSSA strut brace pushed the stock hood up a little I'm wondering if the CF hood maybe it's just flexing down and hitting the top of the brace since there's no interference. I might take the brace off for a day and see. If it turns out to be the very MINOR issue I'm noticing I'll have to see if the cost of buying one that doesn't sit up so high is worth it or not.

Otherwise, it might just be what I should probably expect from a hood weighing less than 15 lbs.

yeah i dont want to take away the clean look either.... :(

i used to have that crap bar too until i switched to the other type which wraps around the IM. Mussa wouldn't beleive me but I guess i wasnt crazy ! hah!

also, for some reason it looks like the vents arent cf? or is it just the pics?

You are right. The vents have no CF laid on it. I guess because of the geometry it would have been difficult to cut and match everything or something.

Cool. Good choice on the no hood pins. I think they are poop looking. Let's hope nothing happens to the hood.

The pillars have been ordered. I'm sure we can work something out with my pillars. They do have some spots that need touch up and aren't clear coated but after the holidays I can tell you the brand of paint I used and the color.

I'd probably only ask for shipping cost and that's it. If nobody wanted them they'd end up in the trash instead.
