2001 XD engine

Does anyone know if the beta 1 or 2's were put into the Kia's? I need a new motor and my local junkyard has a Kia and the engines look almost identical except for the Valve cover

yep, some of the kia's have betas. I know the new spectras share the same platform as the elantras.

2004.5-UP IS the Beta II. Anything 03 and back is NOT a Hyundai engine, but a Mazda derived engine.

Is there a character in the vin that would reveal what engine it has in it or whether its 2004 or 2004.5?? Thanks kias are easier to find around here IMHO and if i blow something up i want to fix it up

I think I see the difference the later one looks a little longer and modern the old one looks like a 90's car I guess I'll just look at 05+ to be on the safe side if I ever need one :D sorry to be jackin the thread from you my01elantra

Will an older Elantra motor work, like around a 1997- 2000? I just need a replacmnt until mine is done being built.
