Sounds like an awesome idea but would it work enough to make a difference?

I heard they work pretty well for cooling down the intake manifold.

Yeah i guess its not that bad....i'm not sure if thats where others had bought theirs from...in theory it does help...but nobody has dyno'd before and after...

you would spend more on the dyno than on the part...not worth it.

carbonman makes these as well, a little cheaper if I remember rightly.

Yeah, and with Carbonman you get good customer service and you know you're getting quality. With Shark Racing...I've heard/read enough Horror stories to steer clear of them.

To me it seems it would only be worth it to do it at the same time as the port/polish IM, and hopfully you would get a deal for buying them at the same time. Theoretically it makes since, but the price for the gain seems... steep, at best.

yeah, but it really does keep the IM quite a bit cooler. i went on a drive after i installed mine, long enough to get the engine hot for a few minutes. got home, popped the hood, and felt the IM...i could have left it on as long as i wanted. before i installed it, it was hot as ****. i burned my arm on it a couple times. you also gotta remember the IM is one of those materials that holds heat for a long time. its been hot 1+ hour after i shut the car down

No have you read anything about these on the 350z it adds 10 horsepower its been dyno proven in magazines. But that is on the VQ motors. I would expect 4-6 horsepower in a elantra.

It won't give you horsepower so much as it will help you keep the horsies you already have from being killed by heat soak.

Interesting that they are trying to sell them for that much considering they should know what Compact Divisions is doing, oh wells. Good for CD.

looks to me,
to be just a head gasket / IM gasket...

surely we dont need to go to these expensice places to buy just a gasket to put onto your IM...?

just be smart about the materail for the gasket you buy - i know of Cork and of the Metal ones too...
go for the one with the high thermal conductivity - or would it be the lower conductivity?
ie - keep the heat out of the IM, or keep the *heat in the IM?
*heat in - keep the tempurature inside the IM from increasing due to under bonnet Temps

just wondering how hard would it be to install one of these???

as easy as pulling the inlet manifold off your engine, putting the 'spacer' on.. and then bolting it all back up - very easy stuff

hmmm at 55 dollars sounds like a good idea to me maybe I'll get one when I get ready to order my intake.

Yes, but the 350z gains for different reasons than ours. The spacer for the 350z doesn't go between the head and the intake manifold, it goes between the upper and lower halves of the intake manifold. The stock intake manifold on the 350z starves the front cylinders of air due to the way it angles down towards the front. This spacer allows more air to get to the front cylinders, allowing more fuel to be used, allowing more power...

a spacer will do good for an engine when it actually puts more than a gaskets width between the mani and head...i had a 3/4" spacer on my 89 Mustang and it helped quite a bit when i was at the track, i didnt have to ice my IM like i did the weekend before when it wasnt on...and FWIW the weekend before i ran a 13.73 and after the install i ran a 13.61 (i also cleaned my K&N and took out the passenger side headlight to allow more air to get in)

Steven,

If you get the phenolic spacer, remember that you have to buy two new intake manifold gaskets, new o-rings for the injectors, and also a gasket for the TB.

www.rockauto.com has pretty good prices.

ricerrx7

You don't have to get a new TB gasket, as you don't have to take the TB off the manifold, and you only have to get new injector o-rings if the old ones are damaged/flattened once you take them out.

I went with all new gaskets just to err completely on the side of caution, and also because I was swapping in a ported intake manifold as well. IMO, if you're buying a spacer, you might as well save yourself time and effort and get a Ported intake manifold at the same time. It's a very nice mod...

alright thanks any kinda power gain would help my autotragic. Might look into doing this after I get my 4-2-1 header.

on their own the manifold porting is supposed to addl ike 5 whp or something, but with N/A stuff, its all about the combos...

Yea thats what I'm going for as much power as I can get without going boost well maybe boost later but not know thats for sure I just don't have that kind of money. Besides I like a little bit of show and go ;)
