I brought my 2005 gls hatch in to the dealer last year following the recall; I don't know what they did to it, but the problem seemed to be resolved for a little while.
But now it has reoccurred, even when a heavier passenger occupies the seat.
Anyone wants to chime in with the latest news on it?

So if someone is sitting on the passenger side and you (god forbid) have an accident, and if the light was off the air bag won’t deploy?

If you don't want to take it back to the dealer right away, you might check the harness connector underneath the seat and make sure the 2 are still plugged into eachother. I remember with the original XD in its early years there were a lot of problems with that coming loose. I don't think that's the same issue you XD2 guys have/had, but it'll only take 10 seconds to check.

Stupid question... Is there anyway to have the air bag deploy (if an accident should happen) regardless if the light is ON or OFF?

Well, I took the car to the dealer on Tuesday; they took the seat out and sent it in for reprogramming. Also, the driver seat seemed to have the fabric on the side bolster (where the airbag is enclosed) starting to get frayed; they took that seat out to send it in to get the cover replaced.
They' ll call me back in a week approximately.
The dealer was also kind enough to give me a rental car from Enterprise.
It's a GMC Envoy, and I hate it; it's terrible. I want my Elantra back......

I went to the dealer and expressed my concern about my airbag light being on with passengers in the seat. They asked if the passengers were sitting correctly in the seat!

So by asking this question, the guy is implying to me that it is ok for the airbag not to inflate in an accident if the customer is not sitting with both feet perfectly flat and rearend in the exact center of the seat... guess such a person wouldn't deserve that degree of safety.

We went around about that for a while until they told me to just go home and wait for them to call me with a resolution.. no. Third time is a charm. I just bought my car 4 months ago. I'm fresh in the salesman's mind. I went to his office and asked him to speak with the service manager. Suddenly i was shown to my loaner car and my car was being whisked away to the service bay. They mentioned sending the seat bottom to california. We'll see. In the meantime, look what i got to play with..

I think I might get one of these when i grow up. Hyundai can do luxury. I've experienced it. Oh, and it goes fast too...

So anyway... back on track. If you still have a warranty and want your passenger airbag to function properly, depending on your dealer, you could end up pretty frustrated with the antics you'll have to go throught to get them to pay attention. It's rediculous.

Update: Picked up the car 6 days later after the seat has been reprogrammed; seems to work well, now. They also put a new seat cover on the driver seat where it was frayed, and fixed the snapping/popping I was feeling in the steering wheel everytime I was turning left. They said it is a snap ring under the steering wheel that had to be adjusted.
So far, these warranty claims have been resolved to my satisfaction. Keeping my fingers crossed.

as some of you may know there is a circuit board about the size of the seat on a flimsy piece of plastic located in the seat, if you have passengers that tend to move around in the seat a lot or little kids who may jump into them and what not it can cause the circuit to break, which is what has been happening how ever the seat is sent out and it is covered by dealer. they should know asap that this is a major problem, i dont understand why they gave you such a problem lcanajoharie.
