I think i like this. It cost 40 bucks and an hour. Autozone sells a "universal grille mesh insert" by Pilot Automotive. It's aluminum.

I went around the outer edge with some cut fuel line, bought some bigger screws to hold it in tight using the stock holes, and viola.

I took these with my camera phone so they aren't awesome shots... plus it's raining again in upstate new york in january. WTF? Any thoughts on this grill?

+3, not digging the screws, if you get some time, fiberglass it! :D
Regardles... it looks great from a few metres away.

fiberglass, or maybe you can find some kind of plastic to cut a piece of grill trim out of. It would be hard to get it perfect, though.

Yea, I agree. It looks good except for the screws. What about cutting out inside of the stock grill and putting that in there?

Fiberglass it? Coat it in fiberglass? Excuse my ignorance and please elaborate.

the easiest way to fiberglass a grill like that would be to incorporate the mesh into a gutted stock grille and glass around it achieving a similar look, but cleaner

my guess was the fuel line is there to keep from scratching the pis out of his paint and to clean up the edges, very ingenious

LOL Obivously, SHERLOCK  I'm just asking how he thought about using fuel line that's cut, and say, why not a misc. plastic trim used for doors or seomthing, you know? I mean "fuel line" isn't the first thing I think of whenever I make a custom grill ;)

Thought about misc. plastic trim but didn't know where to find any. Will be gutting stock grill today and attaching mesh. Will post phone pics.
This didn't go as badly as i thought it might. I bought a dremel and cut for a while. Mangled the plastic a bit but some fine grit sand paper and paint helped a real lot. This is my first time using the dremel.

I suppose I could get another grill from the salvage yard and try again at some point but for now, I'm happy with the look. Plus fuel line is for fuel to flow through. Does anyone know of a better tool than a dremel for this type of cutting? Maybe I just need to practice on my girl's saturn... lot's of plastic there. :D

I agree, looks much better. I've been thinking of doing something to my grill, wanted to replace it but I like the chrome outline, now after seeing this I'm tempted to buy a dremel and cut the stock grill. Lookin good.
