Of course the answer is No you cannot have enough tools. Tomorrow morning I am hoping after just 3-4 hours I want to have the Nitrous Express kit installed and the transmission cooler in place.
I currently have a drill a 5/8" metal drill bit and a few smaller metal bits
A set of metric sockets from like 5-18 MM
A phillips and flat head screwdriver
A sharp kitchen knife :D
A 3" and 5" extension for the ratchet
Some sand paper for metal
I have printed out the running wires from the engine compartment DIY and the Zex 82021 DIY just as a little guide. I also have the instruction booklets that came with the kits. Since my encounter with my oil change a couple days ago I do not want to be unprepared in this project. What other items/tools should I gather before starting up you think?
I am thinking I should get
12 pack of a beverage
1 Big Grab of Doritos
I just feel like I am missing something. Please let me know if I start this tomorrow I have to finish it because I have to go to san antonio and back before 5 pm so that means I have to do the work from about 9:30am - 2:30 to about 3:00pm
I am so excited Sorry if this post is running all over

You never have enough tools, just too little storage room.

LoL ok so you agree with me there :-p but seriously think I have enough to get this done? Will I need any sockets over 18mm or under around 5 or 6mm? Do I need some cleaner before installing anything? I am hoping people who have done these mods will be able to give me a little insight
THANKS!

Another tip: don't eat chips while working on your car unless you like to taste misc. car fluids and road debris in your food since your hands get dirty as hell. Drinking is good.
For some reason I think you won't have enough tools. I have go TONS of them and sometimes I get screwed and need to buy something.
Tell you what. You start the install, and buy as you find-out-that-you-need. :)

Well well sounds like you want me to go back to the Marcus school of missing work cuz my cars busted. I know its a long name but its hard to simplify that. I just have that feeling and I dont want to be without tomorrow. Oh and to top it off of course after fillin the bottle i've got 25 bucks till next week and so I gotta be careful aka no riggin allowed

i ****ing hate doing that!!
but yeah...the only other sizes you should need larger than the 18 would be 22mm for the drain on a manual drain plug, 32mm for the axel nut....and i believe that the strut housing on top is 22mm...but you should be able to do it with just that set...
however what i often run into is the difference in size between long sockets an short sockets and having the right extensions ;) hell even the difference between six and 12 point sockts and or wrenches

A N20 setup really isn't hard at all..? The tools you have will work fine , buti would add a BFH and some cresent wrenches .

BFH = Big F Hammer? Just wanting to make sure. Also With the transmission cooler will I need anything more than whats in the kit I cant find it in search but I thought someone said you needed extra line.

the trans cooler will probably need line wrenches (special crescent type wrenches)

^^
no...trrans cooler install is removing the stock lines from the lower radiator, then routing new lines into and out of the trans cooler, then back inot the trans itself.
as for tools: side cutters, wire crimps, wire connectors, soldering iron (optional), flat head screw driver, phillips, drill, drill bits, plenty of extra 12ga wire, various wrenches and sockets/rachet, jack, jack stands (my car was 1.5" from ground, i had to lift it to run my nitrous lines), pipe thread sealer paste only, not tape), electricle tape, needle nose pliers, pliers, about 3' of fuel line for the trans cooler install (and re-use the stock trans line casing/foam protector, as the new line rests on the drivers side of the radiator).
im sure there might be a couple more things.
plan to set aside about 5hrs for the install. take your time and follow the DIY. if you have any questions or hang ups, give me a call. ill pm you my number in a minute. if your doing the install this saturday or sunday, i will not be available. im having surgery done sat morning and ill be out of commision untill monday.

i dont htink you need teflon tape
2loud2k2xd
01-09-2007, 08:21 PM
i said paste!!! not tape. tape will come apart and clog injectors. paste will not. you will need to apply the paste on the fogger nozzle and all the other nitrous/fuel lines in the nitrous system. DO NOT use the paste on the tapered fittings on any of the lines.

Awesome I have about 7 hours of open time to do the job so should work out.
As for running the switches into the cabin can I just run the wires through the drivers side door or do I have to go through the firewall? Trying to shave some time but dont want to blow anything up.
Thanks again to everyone

Never run it through the fender, and in through the door jamb. That is such a horrible idea. The opening/closing of the door can cause a short.

X 1million. it hurts me to see some of you run power wires like that (ot), shorts could cause a fire.
i drilled the main nitrous line and a/f gauge wires next to the brake booster. it was a ***** drilling from inside the car behind the brake pedal. but its out the way and easily filled in when not needed any more.

One last post here then I have to go do my morning work and hit the parts store
For the holes I've drilled for my lines and switches/guages I wanted to put like some rubber around it toseal up the hole but dont know what that product would be called at the parts store and I didnt want to be a complete idiot when I show up. The other thing is in regards to the fuel line is there a particular brand or type I need to watch out for. I think that is it for now.

That thing you are talking about would be a 'rubber grommet' for the hole.
Fuel line... Are you going to T off the stock line, or do the end of the fuel rail damper removal?
I have T'ed off the stock line for the turbo setup, and just for everyone's information, it's been holding up pretty friggin well since the 9 months the install has been done.

I went all over central texas didnt buy the fuel line though. IT is supposed to be fore the transmission cooler but well at the parts store all I could find was radiator hose and I know that that isnt going to hold up. The biggest suprise was that the Hyundai Auto Mall parts guy told me that I should go buy some Dextron III or Penzoil SPIII Compatable transmission oil I was like oooook. I then went all the way into the next town austin to gillman hyundai and got some spIII fluid at 6/quart I was glad I only needed like 1.5 anyway Im back and about to begin on the solenoids etc who knew thread sealer paste would be harder to find than transmission fluid anyway long *** story abbreviated here but w/e
WHERE CAN I BUY A rubber grommet and can I drive the car to the parts place with a small hole in the firewall or will I suffocate my silly person
KeWLKaT
01-10-2007, 03:29 PM
yeah you can drive with a small hole man there arent (supposed to be) any exhaust fumes coming in from your engine bay anyway.
and a rubber grommet... you can find at a hardware store.

um do you have the fuel rail adapter from ford?
one peice of advice.....take your time!!!

Ok sorry about the delay its been crappy here.
1. Work told me not to do any more work on my car there unless it was necessary for me to be able to drive home.
And
2. We have been iced in down here like all week and wed is my usual car work day at home
What size wrench is the fuel rail I was suprised at the size for sure. Basically all that is left to do is run the switches into the cabin. of course no one on the planet can give me a grommit. I went to home depot and they kept ssending me back and forth from plumbing to hardware without any luck. I'm going to just use silicone is what I'm thinking. And I need of course to purchase the nitrous but a local forum pointed me in the right direction.
KeWLKaT thanks for bumpin this and I should have some more solid stuff on sunday because that is when I plan on running the wires(rain or shine) and if its not raining tapping the fuel rail adapter. I just dont want to strip the fuel rail ya dig? Any tips on that one?
When running the lines I was thinking of just drilling a hole through the sheetmetal under the dash into the engine bay is there a better way? I saw the DIY but if I removed the dash i'm thinking i might put it back on differenty than i took it off or mess it up someother way anyhoo just thoughts or ideas on that one?
PS one last thing I bought some wirestrippers and crimpers and connectors so go me for that so add that to what I have ;)

Where do you work?
KeWLKaT
01-20-2007, 05:49 PM
^^ I require an answer to that question too lol.
Silicone would be fine.
What I did for all 9 electrical wires and vacuum line, is this:
http://www.elantraxd.com/DIY/firewall.php
And you dont need to remove the dash btw, I never did.

Thanks for letting me know about the dash. I work at a call center for a car insurance company :|
I had read that DIY and it showed some interior parts getting removed but I looked at my car and well I dont have coverings under my steering wheel I can just get up underthere with no problemo. Thanks
