Even tho I have never personally done this (Tricked did an outstanding job on mine) From what I have seen most people dont gut the whole inside, they leave at least a couple of the bars in there to support the mesh......just my .02

does the grill stay some what rigid with all of the black bars gone? I thought about taking mine out and redoing it to make it look a little better. Was kinda worried about it getting all floppy. Well take out all but the one holding the H in. I kinda like having that in the middle of my mesh.

take those bumper vent things out and paint them. Two screws hold them in. I used some rustoleum silver spray paint. Even up close it looks like the same color the car is.

The grill. I think it would have looked better if it wasn't so bright, but the quality looks exellent. Great Job. Better than mine. I need to take it out and redo it. ;)

Why does it seem that only silver XD (other than illanpro) owners are making custom grills? Maybe ive missed some peoples pics or something.

It's not really my style, probably because it looks a bit too chromey, but that's some good work that you did. It looks pretty professional. Nice job, man.

I tried to do a similar thing to my grill in the past.. but i had problems with bending the side to fit into the grill.. how did u make it look so clean fitted???

WytchDctr

It might have been the type of mesh you were using. Mine was a PITA to bend into shape but it did... and gave me about 1000 puncture wounds in the process.

Yeah when I first tried to do a custom grill I used crap mesh from Home Depot...it didnt turn out horribly...but It was hard to bend, and then have it keep its shape...So I just got a CD grill from the carb man :)

Looks good, I like Chorme- so BLING ON! Anyways, I'm sure there's many members here waiting for specifics on techniques used for bending & attaching the mesh.

Good job

Yes- where did you get the mesh? It looks easy to work with. How was it attached.

WE DEMAND DETAILS! :stupid:

Plastic weld epoxy is what holds mine. Ive had it come loose once in the last year. I think someone tryed to sit on my hood when I wasn't looking. Alot of people were around it that night. I dont think it was the grills fault. Someone told me gorilla glue might be a better choice. Anyone have any experiance with it?

Looks great, I was gonna do something like that to the lower grill on my Prelude, but used the mesh as a fence extention so the B-Ball qouldn't go over any more.

Kind of the same topic...but was anyone with a gt replace the lower grill?

My parents use Gorilla glue to hold together copper pipe they use for garden trelleces. As hard as my brother and I have tried, it won't let go... I think if it'll hold that together, it should work on this application.

I was going to put mesh in my lower grill and took the plastic out but ended up not putting the mesh in and I just left the plastic grill out. I think it looks pretty good as is. If I com across some money to blow I might have someone fill the lip and slots for the plastic insert. Eventually I will turbo my car and I want to be able to show off the intercooler.

that looks great. I think I should use 2 layer of the grill. I used only 1. It hold it well but I can see the readiator through at daytime.

I had that same problem. The sides kept pealing up, I gave up on it and decided to go back to stock....sort of, just a tad bit of chrome. :)
