04 elantra cvvt 08-12-2004, 10:50 AM Looking good so far. Let us know how it turns out.
vsolo 08-12-2004, 11:25 AM Your such a tease  Making us all wait for the results ;)
truplayazrockic 08-12-2004, 01:16 PM taped up the chrome finish so it doesnt get scratched while gutting the old grill u kno? im gonna finish it now, so ill add more pics in a bit
Even tho I have never personally done this (Tricked did an outstanding job on mine) From what I have seen most people dont gut the whole inside, they leave at least a couple of the bars in there to support the mesh......just my .02
WytchDctr 08-12-2004, 02:39 PM does the grill stay some what rigid with all of the black bars gone? I thought about taking mine out and redoing it to make it look a little better. Was kinda worried about it getting all floppy. Well take out all but the one holding the H in. I kinda like having that in the middle of my mesh.
felixr 08-12-2004, 02:42 PM uhm . . i guess ill let you find out for yourself what masking tape on that chrome will look like when you -T-R-Y- to take it off lol sorry ahead of time
truplayazrockic 08-12-2004, 06:14 PM New pics, i think the tape didnt do ne thing tho? i duno...

GTSpeedRacer 08-12-2004, 06:55 PM I think we need a group buy set up...start making more!!
truplayazrockic 08-12-2004, 07:03 PM how u think it turned out? :conf:
Guess 08-12-2004, 07:50 PM Great job man really great
WytchDctr 08-12-2004, 07:56 PM take those bumper vent things out and paint them. Two screws hold them in. I used some rustoleum silver spray paint. Even up close it looks like the same color the car is.
The grill. I think it would have looked better if it wasn't so bright, but the quality looks exellent. Great Job. Better than mine. I need to take it out and redo it. ;)

Why does it seem that only silver XD (other than illanpro) owners are making custom grills? Maybe ive missed some peoples pics or something.
03SilverBullet 08-12-2004, 10:19 PM Very nice job..I say start a group buy for GLS and the GT.
BlackElantraGT 08-12-2004, 10:27 PM It's not really my style, probably because it looks a bit too chromey, but that's some good work that you did. It looks pretty professional. Nice job, man.
truplayazrockic 08-12-2004, 11:16 PM Night pic, with grill.

04 elantra cvvt 08-13-2004, 12:17 AM Looks good. How did you attatch the mesh to the grille?
yevRPS 08-13-2004, 12:45 AM looks really good
Looks great! You did a damn good job, now get some oem fogs from kspec and fill those holes..lol
20_Elantra_01 08-13-2004, 01:09 PM I tried to do a similar thing to my grill in the past.. but i had problems with bending the side to fit into the grill.. how did u make it look so clean fitted???
WytchDctr 08-13-2004, 01:35 PM It might have been the type of mesh you were using. Mine was a PITA to bend into shape but it did... and gave me about 1000 puncture wounds in the process.
jbird88 08-13-2004, 01:39 PM Yeah when I first tried to do a custom grill I used crap mesh from Home Depot...it didnt turn out horribly...but It was hard to bend, and then have it keep its shape...So I just got a CD grill from the carb man :)
hyunelan2 08-13-2004, 02:46 PM Looks good, I like Chorme- so BLING ON! Anyways, I'm sure there's many members here waiting for specifics on techniques used for bending & attaching the mesh.
Good job
GTSpeedRacer 08-13-2004, 03:03 PM Yes- where did you get the mesh? It looks easy to work with. How was it attached.
WE DEMAND DETAILS! :stupid:
WytchDctr 08-13-2004, 03:34 PM Plastic weld epoxy is what holds mine. Ive had it come loose once in the last year. I think someone tryed to sit on my hood when I wasn't looking. Alot of people were around it that night. I dont think it was the grills fault. Someone told me gorilla glue might be a better choice. Anyone have any experiance with it?
jameswing 08-13-2004, 03:46 PM Looks great, I was gonna do something like that to the lower grill on my Prelude, but used the mesh as a fence extention so the B-Ball qouldn't go over any more.
jbird88 08-13-2004, 03:48 PM Kind of the same topic...but was anyone with a gt replace the lower grill?
jameswing 08-13-2004, 03:50 PM After seing this I'm tempted to add it to my list.
hyunelan2 08-13-2004, 03:56 PM Someone told me gorilla glue might be a better choice. Anyone have any experiance with it?
My parents use Gorilla glue to hold together copper pipe they use for garden trelleces. As hard as my brother and I have tried, it won't let go... I think if it'll hold that together, it should work on this application.
I was going to put mesh in my lower grill and took the plastic out but ended up not putting the mesh in and I just left the plastic grill out. I think it looks pretty good as is. If I com across some money to blow I might have someone fill the lip and slots for the plastic insert. Eventually I will turbo my car and I want to be able to show off the intercooler.
TBurton 08-13-2004, 04:33 PM Nice job, yo.
only1db 08-13-2004, 08:33 PM looks good....i want to do my lower grill as well!
where are some of these anwser's??
Hitman 08-14-2004, 02:08 AM Damn that's HOT. You did a really good job.
Now you shoulda known we were all gonna want a detailed DIY. Where did you buy the mesh?
wow, very nice. now, like everyone else, i want the answers to the same questions.
hadleyish 08-16-2004, 07:30 PM What bulbs do you have in your turn signals??
Dropped02xd 08-16-2004, 11:38 PM its a pure white 10 led bulb, the ebay guy sent the wrong one so it doesnt match headlight so w/e im to lazy to replace them
sammy21c 08-18-2004, 12:54 AM that looks great. I think I should use 2 layer of the grill. I used only 1. It hold it well but I can see the readiator through at daytime.
Fudbalplaya87 08-22-2004, 03:43 PM Hey man, thats just beastly how you did that! good job. Where did you get the material or aluminum mesh for the job? Im trying to get mine off of ebay
Dropped02xd 08-23-2004, 01:15 AM I went to dynamic turbo here in south fl and bought a Arospeed mesh girll for 30$ and then installed.
bcware 08-23-2004, 01:23 AM your sig gave me a siezure.
Dropped02xd 08-23-2004, 01:29 AM :multiples :hand:
Jlivan 08-23-2004, 08:44 AM I tried to do a similar thing to my grill in the past.. but i had problems with bending the side to fit into the grill.. how did u make it look so clean fitted???
I had that same problem. The sides kept pealing up, I gave up on it and decided to go back to stock....sort of, just a tad bit of chrome. :)
